CRYSTAL JADE BGC: NEW MENU for 2016

Crystal Jade in BGC has been the to go place for authentic Chinese Cuisine in BGC. Since it is the new year, the restaurant opted to bring in other Chinese dishes made popular by their other brand CRYSTAL JADE Shanghai delights in Greenhills. This made the menu of Crystal Jade BGC bigger and better. More choices for us foodies.
You could start off with some fruit shakes to cool off.
Began the meal with some Raddish Puffs.
Perfectly fried. No excess oil and the pastry tasted fresh.
Of course, the XIAO LONG BAO was also served. If you aren't familiar with it, I suggest you go out and try it. Basically, there is a soupy liquid inside the wrapper along with a meat dumpling depending on the flavor. It could be pork, crabs, and a lot more. Remember to eat it carefully as it would be peeping hot.
The beef balls were a revelations. Granted that it didn't look appetizing, one bite and I got hooked. It was smooth and the flavor was present. As such, I wasn't surprised that this dish was a best seller.
To the delight of many noodle dish fans, CRYSTAL JADE now serves SOUP NOODLE with DRIED SHRIMP and Peanut in Spicy Sauce. Commonly known as TAN TAN MIAN.  Surprisingly, the sauce wasn't as spicy as one would believe it was. The peanut flavor blended well with the soup. The noodles were firmed and the meat delicious. One bowl is actually big enough for 2-3 persons to share.
One can't get enough of the SWEET and SOUR PORK. The pork was perfectly deep fried and the sauce wasn't overpowering. I liked it.
As with any Chinese Meal, the rice was served towards the end. Properly done and not too oily.
To end the meal, we had the Almond Jelly with Lychee. It wasn't too sweet as such I enjoyed it. Very refreshing.

Crystal Jade BGC is welcoming the New Year with a lot of additional items in its menu. I am pleasantly surprised that they could carry a lot and yet still serve quality and affordable Chinese Dishes in the BGC area. Cheers.

YUMCHEE: Premium Chinese Fast Food in BGC Stopover

When you go for Chinese Food, it's either a hefty bill for fine dining or an oily and disappointing after effect of greasy and not so sumptuous meal. You can't really have the best of both worlds. Not until you try out YUMCHEE in BGC.

There comes a time when you crave for something Chinese but the usual fast food restaurant doesn't appeal to you anymore. Enter YUMCHEE. A Chinese Fastfood Restaurant found in BGC's Stopover that serves premium Chinese dishes. Yumchee is a play on words. Yummy Chinese.
As you enter, it reminds you of a big Chinese Fastfood Chain. No doubt about it. But, it is better and has an upscale feel to it. The dishes served are of premium taste and doesn't have to cost an arm and a leg. Plus, they aren't too oily and tastes smoother too. Perfect for a quick office lunch.

You could start with their drinks. From different milk teas to iced oolong and even coffee.
Dimsum are also present. At 85Php each, you won't go wrong with any of them.
I did enjoy the fried wanton and the shrimp dumpling. Plump and they don't have that dizzy, what have I done, after taste. The Pork buns were also soft and filled with the perfect fillings. Not too much and not too little. Just right.
Their Congee (159Php) is a big bowl of delight. Pictured here: Mixed Seafood and Pork Meatball.
You could taste the stock used for each of them. Definitely not overwhelming, the tastes were mild and won't give you that full feeling. Aside from that, they are served with "breadsticks". These are basically like those Singaporean bread usually partnered with Bak Kut Teh. Called Youtiao, they can be eaten as is or with nuts or different flavor. IN any case, in YUMCHEE it's is almost the same as the ones I've tried in Singapore but I would have love for them to be more chewy.
Not to be missed are the NOODLE SOUP.
I would suggest that you go for the Beef Brisket and Wanton. The combination of both gives the best of both worlds. The noodles were firm and the soup was just right. Not overwhelmingly done.

The bread and butter of YUMCHEE is their set meals. At roughly 200Php, you get a main dish and a side and soup. Definitely an easy pick up meal. Sides like rice, veg fried rice or fried noodles.
There were certain dishes that really got my attention. The sweet and sour pork, orange chicken and the beef brisket.
The sweet and sour pork was perfectly cooked. Not too sweet and still has those crunchy sides. I liked it. The Orange Chicken has a citrusy slight taste. Perfect with an extra cup of rice.
Hands down though, I love their beef brisket. You could partner it with rice or even those buns. These are just love.
For dessert, they have Shaved ice (78Php). Basically milky cold dessert topped with different ingredients such as jelly or fruits to end the meal.

On a personal note, one thing that was totally awesome happened when I visited YUMCHEE. The KTG celebrated SPANKY'S birthday. Spanky, the founder of KTG, is an awesome guy. Been in the industry for a long long time and aside from being a writer is also a selfless and generous guy.

Cheers boss!!!!

FYI: The cake is made by Goldilocks. See our logo? It was sort of printed on the cake. Yes, it is edible. Cool stuff right?

The average price point here is around 200Php per person. Not bad considering its location in BGC and the food it serves. Taste wise, I enjoyed side dishes and the main dishes. It didn't give me that sleepy and greasy after taste. Unlike other Chinese Fast Food Restaurants. I honestly enjoyed it.

CRYSTAL JADE in BGC: Feeling LUCKY?

OMG!!! That was the first thing that came into my mind when I saw this amazing duck getting his succulent meat cut up. But I am getting ahead of myself. I was invited to try out CRYSTAL JADE DINING IN in BGC new MID AUTUMN MENU.

That time of the year again!!! MID-AUTUMN, and CRYSTAL JADE has something up its sleeves. Located in the center of BGC, CRYSTAL JADE DINING IN RESTAURANT is an excellent  Chinese Fine Dining Restaurant.

Once you enter, you are greeted with opulence and a staff that is courteous in every way.

Since it is the MID AUTUMN FESTIVAL, and CRYSTAL JADE is celebrating, they are offering a few set menu that could feed a small group of 4 to a large gathering of 10-12 or more.

They first showed off the lovely ROASTED PEKING DUCK.

After showing off the big gun, they started the 8 course meal.

To get things hot, they served the BRAISED FRESH SCALLOP with SHRIMP SOUP. This savory soup can not be faulted. One gulp after the next, you just can't stop yourself. The tofu went well with the scallops and shrimps. It titillates your senses.

I knew I needed to pace myself as I saw what they were doing at the back.
They had the glorious PEKING DUCK wrapped and prepared.
IT was simple and definitely delicious. You could taste the freshness of the roasted duck. The crunchy skin was evident as the meat was tender. LOVE THIS.

You may be wondering what's inside? This is the BAKED ASSORTED MUSHROOM with BLACK TRUFFLE.
If you are into truffles and mushrooms, you would definitely try to steal your seatmates'. This was heavenly. You could smell the truffle from a mile away. YUMMY!

Something different and definitely fresh is the GAROUPA LINE POACHED in SUPERIOR SOUP.
Bean curds are dropped in the boiling soup. Then, the fish meat is added. Clay pot is used so that the flavor is retained. You could definitely feel and taste the freshness of the fish as it was cooked right infront of you. It was uberly soft and

Since man can't live with just seafood, they offered the SAUTEED BEEF with BASIL LEAF & SPICY SAUCE. It is't really that spicy that it would hurt your tongue but rather just the right amount to give your taste buds a little kick.

As with Chinese Cuisine, rice is served towards the end of the meal. Here they brought out the FRIED RICE with SCALLOP, CRAB MEAT and CRAB ROE. Don't you hate it when they give you the synthetic crab meat rather than the fresh one. Well here in CRYSTAL JADE, you won't get disappointed as they use real fresh crab meat!

Just to give the meal a little bit of healthy, they served SAUTEED VEGETABLES with CRAB MEAT SOUP.  Crunchy green veggies mixed well with the crab meat soup. You could hear the crunch after each bite.

Ending the meal, MOONCAKES were served.

One thing that I like about CRYSTAL JADE is that during the MID AUTUMN FESTIVAL, they let you play a modified version of the dice game. Remember that for this game, you're aim is to get a lucky roll. Getting 4 4's or the number 4 a lot of times or having a straight is lucky and could get you a little token.

Unfortunately for me, I wasn't able to get my groove on and I didn't get anything. CRAP! Hahaha Maybe next time.

For the whole month of September, CRYSTAL JADE BGC is offering these dishes along with other house specialties to make your MID AUTUMN a little bit better. Furthermore, their dice game is there to test you if you are lucky.

Even if it wasn't the season, I could say that CRYSTAL JADE BGC is definitely a must visit when it comes to fine dining Chinese Food. Delicious food, awesome service and everything that you would need. I will be back!!!

CRYSTAL JADE BGC: What the Chef Recommends

New Year, New Life and awesome new dishes in CRYSTAL JADE DINING IN.

When I am in BGC, I can't help but suggest CRYSTAL JADE as the place to go to for Chinese Food. The vibe is relaxing and this is where you could do those power lunches or hold some family dinners.

Since it was a new year, CRYSTAL JADE wanted to let us try their new offerings. I was definitely not going to miss this event as I was floored the last time I went and tried out their thanksgiving dishes (CLICK HERE) Just in time for the Chinese New Year!!!
For the first time, I was able to try  YU SHENG (LO HEI) or PROSPERITY TOSS.
Different ingredients that represent good luck and fortune. The thing to go about it was to use chopsticks and toss the ingredients high.
and this is what you get.
Fresh ingredients all tossed up. The dressing was on the sweet side but it definitely tasted good.

Then they brought out the duck. ROASTED PEKING DUCK. Look at that beauty.
Look at that skin.
Yes that skin. Juicy and fat!
Then, they placed it in those pancake wrappers. The perfect way to eat it all.

Another way they served the duck was to make noodles with it. BRAISED NOODLES with SHREDDED DUCK MEAT and MUSHROOMS.
For soup, we had the DOUBLE-BOILED FISH with white fungus and papaya.
I am not really a fish soup eater but I will make an exception for this one. The papaya was soft and the fish meat felt as if it was beef. It was that freaking good. I would go back for this!

We were then served SESAME BALLS. Stuffed with fresh mushroom.
When these were brought to our table, I thought that they were BUCHI. In a way, they were. Instead of sweet gooey insides, bits of mushrooms were in it. Although I little oily, I wouldn't mind getting them again.
We were also able to try CRISPY PRAWN with sliced apples.
The sauce was sweet and sour and the meat was juicy and tender. Not overcooked.

Another fish dish was the STEAMED GAROUPA with OLIVE.
Although it looked pretty and the fish was definitely fresh, it lacked the olive flavor. It was there but a bit subtle. I would have wanted more of that flavor.

Needless to say, I didn't pay attention to much to the assorted veggies. These were sauteed and I just gave my part to others the group. Just because.

The Coffee Jelly bites were a perfect way to end the meal.
They were firm yet weren't dry. I liked the coffee flavor. YUMMY~!

More than the place and the vibe, CRYSTAL JADE in BGC has been a go to resto for straight up Chinese food. Cooked and served right, you won't go wrong with them. Even if it is a little pricey dining here, you would definitely get your due with the quality and the service.
