IPPUDO: More Than Just Ramen

There comes a time when noodles and ramen would be never enough. As Filipinos, we usually like to eat different viands in each meal. It's never just going to be noodles or just deep fried dishes or plain old meat. There has to be something else to get us going. Personally, that's how my family does it and I'm guessing that's how others prefer it as well.
ENTER IPPUDO. Known as a ramen place, they have been innovating and coming up with new dishes ever so often. They like to entice foodies to come on over not just for the classics but for something else. More so, that they offer other worthwhile dishes instead of just being RAMEN.
Just like that, a dish was placed on our table and torched. It was IPPUDO'S version of an ABURI. The TORCHED SALMON ROLL is a favorite. Topped with metaiko mayo and fish roe, it had a familiar taste. It was something similar to bite sized salmon which had heavy Japanese Mayo flavorings. I would have enjoyed it more if there was more metaiko in it. Nonetheless, this is a must order.
The TEBA GYOZA is another winner. This is known as dumplings on steroids. Stuffed with meaty gyoza filling, this chicken wing dish is perfect to partner with SAPPORO BEER.
Something different and not really Japanese, the CLAM CHOWDER RAMEN was brought in. This one is actually an import from IPPUDO NEW YORK. It was redeveloped for the Filipino palette and as such served with BACON. They would suggest for you to crack the bacon into tiny bits and have it spread all over the dish.
Unique for this dish, the BLACK PEPPER NOODLES were used. This compliments the tonkotsu broth together with the bechamel sauce. The clams and the parmesan cheese made it a bit heavy but a joy to eat. Definitely, more and more options are preferred here at IPPUDO.

IPPUDO in UPTOWN BGC

Recently opened in BGC'S UPTOWN MALL, IPPUDO is making waves. Visited on a weekday lunch, the place was packed and filled with patrons. There was even a line outside for late lunch goers.
For this visit, the new menu of IPPUDO was served. Interesting and something that you would go back for more.
For meat lovers, the WAGYU MAKI ONIGIRI would be the perfect side kick to your ramen. Tender wagyu meat molded into a golf ball like shape. Inside is a surprise of Japanese rice with some seasoning. The Yakiniku sauce gives it a slight sweet touch. Another meaty dish would be the GYUTAN. This melt in your mouth Australian beef tongue is sizzling good. Tender and very smooth. Nice addition to your ramen.
Not really new, they have a couple of buns to consider. From Pork to Chicken and Menchi, you won't go wrong with any of them.
RAMEN lovers would enjoy the Hakata Styled NIKUSOBA. Topped with thin slices of pork belly, this ramen is perfect to pair with rice.  The creamy tonkotsu broth absorbs the flavors well and is not overly heavy. Believe it or not, this was the first time I finished a whole bowl of ramen with rice. It was that good.
More than just RAMEN, IPPUDO is one of the best Japanese Restaurant you could visit for snacks. I believe that the dishes they offer are delicious and right for the price. Flavors are present and capture the Filipino Taste Buds. RAMEN and Side dishes from IPPUDO jives well with one another.

IPPUDO in Sm Megamall: Hot and Sexy with their new dishes.

Not thinking into what may happen, I came from an awesome lunch buffet. I told myself what the heck and still went on and on. EATING that is. I think I might have pushed too much with all the food but I sure know that I would love what IPPUDO has in store. So yes, I still went ahead and visited the SM MEGAMALL branch of IPPUDO to get a taste of their latest endeavors.

One step in and I could remember the first time I went here (click here) . Not only that, I couldn't help but compare the dishes and the flavors I had here and in one of their branches in Tokyo (click here for tokyo Ippudo Experience).
Common tables alongside couches. Personally, I prefer seating at the bar.
All the condiments that you might need for your ramen.
The first dish to come up is IPPUDO's version of a OKONOMIYAKI or a Japanese Pancake. I liked how moist and soft it was with each bite. The Pancake is actually wrapped with Chashu like meat. Almost like bacon. It's a little sweet because of the sauce on top. Be careful though as it is a bit hot as it is served on a sizzling plate.
Other than noodles, IPPUDO in MEGAMALL serves awesome rice dishes. One rice bowl that is somewhat new is the BEEF ISHIYAKI RICE (495Php).
Stewed beef with yakiniku sauce poured on top. In addtion to this, melted butter, corn, tomatoes, crisp garlic chips and french beans are served on Japanese rice. Be careful too as this is served in a hot stone pot.
After pouring and mixing the ingredients, one bite in and I was hooked. The meat was tender and the sauce was perfect. It wasn't too sweet nor was it salty. It definitely made my day. This would be my choice of meal if I wasn't going for any ramen. Speaking off, according to the staff, this has been a go to favorite for kids adolescents not really into ramen.
Alas, this is IPPUDO. It is synonymous to RAMEN so, RAMEN we should and we did.
A limited edition, the GYOKAI TONKOTSU (490Php).
A blend of tonkotsu and creamy chicken broth. It has bonito and shoyu. On the side, they have yuzukosyo pepper. This is the one on top of that soup spoon. It has a zing that cleanses the palate and makes the dish enjoyable to eat. Do not worry it isn't as hot as what you might expect. I also enjoyed that they served this with wavy noodles. Be wary of the bamboo shoots. Don't eat it as it is because it might be too salty for you. One of my mistakes as a ramen novice. Remeber: SLURP.
They also introduced the LEMON SPRITZER DRINK (140Php). Freshly squeezed lemon, sparkling water, topped with mint leaves. It's somewhat 7upy flavored soda water. I can't explain the citrusy flavor but my companions enjoyed it. For me, it was a bit sweet though.

I can see myself coming back again and again. I didn't regret going to IPPUDO even after having a buffet lunch. The Beef Rice is a joy to eat. Alongside the ramen, it would be a deadly combination. I enjoyed the okonomiyaki too as it was moist and suited for the Filipino palate. Cheers.

IPPUDO EBISU: OUR Tokyo Ramen Experience

And that's dinner. After our DISNEY SEA adventure (click here) , we all figured that we needed to have something hot to cool down. Ramen was the best choice.

A week or so before my Japan trip, I was advise to try out the different ramen restaurants the country has to offer. From  Ramen St in Tokyo station to other vending machine type ramen like Ichiran for the experience.

Since, we have an Ippudo here in Manila (click here), I dismissed it as a place to visit.
My mind gave way though as some of friends said that it was different from the one here.

So,
When in Japan, Tokyo's Ippudo is something that we had to try.

A quick search on IPPUDO lead us to EBISU.
We honestly went in circles looking for the place. Rather than exiting on the right side of the station, we went to the left and went farther and in circles.

After a 40 minute walk around, we finally made it. IPPUDO EBISU.
Unlike other restaurants, this IPPUDO has a draw towards the foreigners. Seats aren't separated like in other traditional "vending machine ramen stores". There are tables and chairs to share with your friends and family which is ideal for big groups.

After setting into our seats, I took some shots of the  garnish and other things to add in your ramen.

Forgive me as I can't read Japanese text. We just picked from the menu what to order and customized it to the best that we can. The menu was simple and straight forward. I was actually looking for the other dishes that IPPUDO MANILA offers. Unfortunately, it seems that some of them aren't really sold in Tokyo. Anyway, on to the meal.

The GYOZA was delicious and perfectly cooked. It wasn't oily nor was the wrapper tired and dry. The feelings complimented the ramen well. It wasn't the best but it was close to it. I wasn't blown away but I did appreciate it.

There were only 4 choices of Ramen with different ways to customize each. You could add some egg or meat and enjoy the dish more. The heat level was also asked. Spicy is as spicy gets.

This was the KARAKA MEN. HOT and perfect for the freaking cold weather. I chose this because I was just too damn cold.
The noodles were served firm and the broth was pipping hot. Delicious and well rounded taste.

I was actually impressed with the way they cooked and served the meal. Everything was fast and efficient.

This was the ever flavorful and rich AKAMARU KASANEAJI. It has fried garlic and red pepper paste.

Don't forget to order rice. This isn't for the gyoza but it is to absorb the extra broth once you have eaten all the noodles. Perfect combination.

Don't forget to slurp!!

Even if we got lost, IPPUDO was worth a try. I was a little disappointed that some of the dishes that are available here aren't available there. In terms of the taste and quality, I could vouch of the authenticity of the one we have in Manila. Worth a try but I know I could easily have a go at it in SM MEGAMALL.
Everything is worth a try and this is one of those moments that I enjoyed SLURPING my dinner through and through.
