EGGSLUT: BREAKFAST OF CHAMPIONS? Grand Central Market Los Angeles California

 When I was in California a few weeks ago, I was brought to a place called the GRAND CENTRAL MARKET. This foodie place was just packing. It's an open air food hall that is quite impressive. Fancy neon lights, long lines, and delicious smelling food. They even had a Filipino Sari-Sari store looking stall.
 One of the more popular "stalls" in the place would be EGGSLUT. This all day breakfast place offers messy yet easy to eat egg sandwiches that could fill you up. Even after the lunch crowd had left, it still had a long but quick moving line.
 Since we have been eating all day, we just shared one to check it out. We went for the most popular item on the menu. One bite of the BACON, EGG, AND CHEESE SANDWICH and it reminded me of this place in VIRRA MALL in Greenhills, Metro Manila. Underneath the escalator on the first floor was a stall named Bread Connection. They used to sell ham and egg sandwiches. TO be frank, they literally tastes almost the same. Both used what is likely to be Banana Ketchup because of the sweetness and smell. Although we could say that EGGSLUT delivers higher quality ingredients, I couldn't differentiate the two because of the taste. Texture wise, EGGSLUT is fluffy and easy to eat. While, Bread Connections' sandwich has a little crunch.

I've actually been to a couple of EGGSLUT. This one and another in LAS VEGAS. To be truthful, it was just okay. It's not something I would look for but I could still see myself eating it. A little expensive than the usual but worth a try. I guess it's not for everyone. P.S. The cold brew coffee is pretty good but you could get it at a different place cheaper.

IHOP: More than just Breakfast

Surprisingly, IHOP just became a little bit more than just breakfast. Having multiple store locations around the metro, IHOP created more dishes for lunch and dinner.
One could start off with some fresh fruit juices. These aren't your usual out of the can drinks. Rather, they are freshly squeezed and are extracted through the use of a juicer making sure that the nutrients aren't lost. Their best seller would be the RISE and SHINE. This has pineapple, ginger and carrots.
From the menu, the chicken cordon bleu was spot on. The crispy exteriors went extremely well with the moist and tender chicken roll. Another must try dish would be the BBQ LIEMPO. A Filipino favorite, IHOP'S version is heavily seasoned. Each bite would make you have a spoonful of rice.
The CHICKEN with POTATO HASH is a crowd favorite. The grilled chicken is topped with bacon and cheese making the diner a little bit indulgent. The hollandaise sauce works well with the overall flavor of this dish.
Just in case you want a filling quick snack, the BREAKFAST BURRITO would be your best bet. Being able to have all the goodies from breakfast, this burrito is heavy and delicious at the same time. It might be a little dry for some but if you're a breakfast person, you will love this for lunch and dinner as well.
Definitely a mad creation, the WAFFLE BURGER is just something out of a sci-fi food tv series. Imagine something sweet with something savory. Then add cheese, bacon and egg. This is something different that is definitely a must try.

Trying to offer more dishes for the public, IHOP now has more than just breakfast items. Worth another visit if you ask me.

Good Morning with Mcdonald's Newest Hotcake

Breakfast being the most important meal of the day tends to be a little boring for some. Personally, it is pretty hard for me to eat a lot during breakfast because my senses are still asleep and I don't have the appetite yet. I think MCDONALD'S wants to change that.
Introducing the DOUBLE CHOCO CRUMBLE HOT CAKES. These hotcakes were drizzled with choco malt and topped with cookie crumble. Honestly, I thought that I would be turned off by the overly sweet nature of the breakfast dish from Mcdonald's.
One bite and I was glad that I was wrong. The toppings didn't make the hotcakes overly sweet. In fact, they want you to use the maple syrup to balance the flavor out. It works.

IHOP'S PANCAKE at 25Php Each

FROM FEBRUARY 8 to FEBRUARY 12, You can get your pancake fill from IHOP!

Since my friends were craving for breakfast food, we figured to eat at IHOP.

One thing that I do like at IHOP is their Hash Browns. It's more of a shredded version of fried potatoes.
You can never go wrong with their HASH BROWN! One thing I also noticed is that IHOP has super affordable unlimited coffee. If you're a coffee junkie, this would be the perfect place to get your fix on. If you ask me, coffee, hash brown and pancakes sounds good to me.

PANCAKE HOUSE: Old School Favorite

 
A couple of weeks back, I found myself driving in a place that I have never been to. It was somewhat far and I didn't know my left from my right. It was all guessometer and I had a hard time with that. Just because of food, I did it. After going around in circles, I found my way to Pasig's newest food stop. It was here that I saw PANCAKE HOUSE. 

It is never too early or late for breakfast. That is one statement in which I know a lot of us agree with. 
PANCAKE HOUSE serves amazing dishes that one could definitely say is distinctly FILIPINO. The food may have originated from a different place but PANCAKE HOUSE'S version of them definitely shout FILIPINO FLAVORS.

Don't get me wrong, PANCAKE HOUSE has been in the business for a long long time. I could remember eating their tacos and their classic dishes ever since I was a little kid. I enjoyed it. IT is pretty amazing that even until now they continue to innovate and spread their reaches. 

For Starters, Pancake House delivers new fresh salad.
The SHRIMP MANGO SALAD (295Php) is served with a fresh tangy dressing. The addition of the nuts in the salad gave it a different texture. I liked this one.

If shrimps or mangoes aren't really your thing, I suggest you get their WARM BACON POTATO SALAD (164Php). Given that this is basically potato salad, can still enjoy every last bite.

 Since this is the house of pancake, you can choose between waffles to flavored pancakes and other carb goodies that are usually made for breakfast. 

In case, you aren't into that good morning stuff, you could go for their simple meals. Like this, HOUSE SPECIAL SET (257Php). Taco, salad and a piece of chicken. Works every time.

 Now, I can't help but say that the TACOs in PH is definitely different from their Mexican counterparts. IT is more Filipino. The sweet flavour coming from the ground beef and its juices makes it homey and distinctively Filipino. I super duper like their tacos.

The same goes with their SPAGHETTI. Yes, it isn't the usual thing that we would get from an Italian Restaurant but it is reminisce of what we used to have during birthday parties. A little on the sweet side if you know what I mean. 

Yes, they too offer dessert. Seeing that it is a little bit over board already, I would suggest that you stay off it. In case you don't want to listen to me, they also offer crepes.

PANCAKE HOUSE has been in the country for the longest time. Seeing that they are continuing to expand makes them an awesome restaurant that caters to the FILIPINO PALETTE. Yes, the tacos and the spaghettis are a bit on the sweet side. Yes they mostly serve breakfast food. BUT, they definitely make them definitely FILIPINO.

Revisiting BREAKFAST and PIES: My last day at work.


It was just that. Start of another chapter in life.

Maginhawa St., is the place to go to when looking for up and coming restaurants. It is known as the food street in quezon city. One of the best places to go to for a food trip. My go to place there would have to be BREAKFAST and PIES. WHY? Because I love breakfast food. 

BREAKFAST and PIES is from the creator of PINO, PIPINO, and even BACKYARD. (check my experience here, here , here ).

I don't know but their COUNTRY FRIES is something . Every time I go there, this is my go to snack.

Fries done right with a side of spicy dip. I liked it.

For egg lovers, the SKILLET FRITATA is the way to go. Better than an omelet, because it has everything you would every wanted. This is the better deal. Bigger and better.


Their ULTIMATE BACON RICE needs more improvement.  The bacon slab was a little dry but the bacon jam is a genius way of making it better.

The EGGS BENNY is something for the indecisive. The eggs were runny inside while in soft boiled formed.

The bacon is just that bacon. Not on the crunchy side but pork goodness.

The CARAMELIZED SPAM is a genius. HUGE loads of spam that is sweet with egg properly cooked. Thank God. I just hate it when they over cook the eggs.
The amount of spam is good for two. The small piece of kimchi underneath the egg helped in giving another dimension to the taste. and yes, you need to order extra rice.

and for less guilt. Go for the SUGAR FREE APPLE PIE.
a lot of apple slices made for the better. I loved it.

Choco chip cookie.... just like that..
It was my last day at work. My last hurrah. Another bite of the cookie done.  
Another part of life to move into. Let's see what happens.

 Enjoying my last day of work with good food. Eating breakfast food is the way to go to comfort the soul and the tummy. I enjoyed every bite of it. When an old chapter ends, a new one starts.
Sorry for the random thoughts but you know what.. I enjoyed it.

BRUNCH at MAIN STREET

Don't you ever have that itch? On a fine weekend, you wake up not late but with the sun's light touching your skin. Then BOOM! You got that feeling in your tummy. Its growing and growling and you know you are hungry! You ask your loveones to chill with you and enjoy each other's company.
A place for such is MAIN STREET.
Located in Tuscany, MAIN STREET occupies a small but functional space right beside LES BAGELS.
As you enter, you would notice quirky designs on the walls, a little fun for the kids at heart.
Even if this place transforms into a watering hole at night, you would be glad that they serve awesome dishes.

Luckily, they now open a little bit earlier come weekends and you can get your fill with their awesome Canadian themed dishes. (TIP: GET THE POUTINE!)
Almost similar, the CLASSIC EGGS BENNY (300 Php top) and CRABCAKE EGGS BENNY (320 Php - bottom) are their take favorites in the breakfast world. Served with english muffin, poached egg either crab cakes or smoked Canadian bacon  smothered with hollandaise sauce with a side of roasted herb potatoes.
Personally, I prefer the Bacon! I love the meat. 
For the egg lovers, they have the MAIN STREET FRITATA (260Php) made with 3 eggs, fried chorizo, cherry tomatoes, kesong puti, and a bunch of spices plus some sour cream!
 Too eggy for me, but my friends liked it.

The EGGSLUT (300Php) has applewood smoked bacon, cheddar cheese, sriracha mayo, caramelized onions, and a side of hand cut fries.
Again its all about the home made bacon. The fries is also properly seasoned and you would love it!

Don't ever ever miss THE BACON SLAB (320 Php). Made in house, thick cut applewood smoked bacon, with sweet potato mash. The Bacon must not be shared!!! I hesitated and damn..got beat. Definitely a crowd pleaser, the sweet potato mash has chunky texture but the flavor was spot on! I loved it.
 The BUTTERMILK FRIED CHICKEN BACON WAFFLE (330Php) has bacon and chive waffle, don papa rum infused honey and apple coleslaw.
For the price, the quality and the quantity of the dish you get is definitely bang for buck! The waffle is made perfectly and is an awesome addition to the dish.
 The KITAYAMA HANGING TENDER STEAK and EGGS is just pure love. Salsa verde, pickled radish, poached egg and roasted potatoes.
Not overdone, tender and made perfectly. Just give me the rice and I am so happy!!!

If that wasn't enough, dessert is something that must not be missed.
Its actually a special dish that its still under construction but we got a taste of it. It still has no name but if you could ask them about it, ORDER IT!!!!!

DROOOOOOOLLLLLL!!!!!!!!!! OMG!
They make their own ice cream so, if you get a chance ask them about it! YUMMY! ... If only they had sugar-free.

Aside from all the great dishes that they offer, one thing that I loved about Main Street is the chill vibe that it emits. Letting friends hungout and enjoy each other's company. Funny discussions and joke time early in the morning is definitely a nice welcome to a weekend full of fun.
