CALIFORNIA PIZZA KITCHEN: PIZZA WARS YEAR 3

CALIFORNIA PIZZA KITCHEN is at it again. This time around for its 3rd year, they are having the PIZZA WARS. A culminating event happened just recently in CPK'S SHANGRI-LA branch that showcased the 3 finalists for the PIZZA WARS.
The atmosphere was both intense and festive. Each of the participants prepared their pizza creations infront of the crowd and the judges. With each masterful stroke, the finalists presented their winning recipe.
The 3rd place went to the CHICKEN BANH MI PIZZA of Jay Mar dela Paz of CPK Promenade Greenhills. Very colorful, this pizza has a curry base with chicken and other vegetable toppings that is similar to a banh mi.
With only a 0.25 point difference, the 2nd place went to Danny Fernandez of CPK Greenbelt 5. The THAI BEEF PIZZA creation was a bit spicy but the meat was tender and the greens gave each bite a crunch.
The winner is for this year's PIZZA WAR would be Rommel Panaligan of CPK ALABANG TOWN CENTER. He won with his Garlic Cream Cheese Pizza. The winner of the 2015 edition, Rommel is no stranger to creating delicious pizza for CALIFORNIA PIZZA KITCHEN'S GUESTS. This time around this garlic cream is created with 3 different types of cheeses and some sausages to have a white cream base pizza. Kids and kids at heart would enjoy this creamy creation.
Guests of CALIFORNIA PIZZA KITCHEN would be able to try out these pizza come August. Again, congratulations to the participants of the CALIFORNIA PIZZA WARS YEAR 3.

CALIFORNIA PIZZA KITCHEN: NEW DISHES THIS 2017

There comes a time when you wake up and wonder what has happened. You realize you're 31 and you see yourself in the mirror and ask "what have I done". At California Pizza Kitchen, they look after you by offering healthier options. Something light yet feeling and delicious are added to their menu.
Just a few weeks ago, CPK has released some new dishes to their menu lineup. It included some salad, pizza, a pasta, and even rice meals. Something that is catered to the Filipino palette.
For starters, one could go for the Fruit Salsa Tortilla Tzatziki. Served with nacho chips, you have your own salsa with avocados as toppings. Healthy eaters would enjoy the Quinoa + Arugula. The quinoa were properly cooked in a way that it complimented the greens well. The addition of the cheese gave contrasting flavors to the arugula.
For pasta, one could try the CHICKEN and SAUSAGE FAJITA. Served with bread, this dish is on the creamy side. Since Filipinos are vehement rice eaters, CPK figured that it's important to put in some rice entrees. Take note though, you could change the rice to quinoa if you so wish.
One could go for the SWEET FLAME SHRIMP or the CHICKEN and ASPARAGUS. The shrimp is lightly seared and is coated with a sweet sauce. The chicken and asparagus has lemon cream sauce to give off that citrus flavor. It goes pretty well with rice.
Since CPK is well know for its pizza, this time around, they added a couple.
You could go for a vegetarian option that's coined as FORIANA ROASTED WALNUT with CAULIFLOWER. Honestly, there was a sense of terror when I saw the dish. I haven't seen that much vegetables on a pizza. One bite it and I realized that the combination of vegetables wasn't too overwhelming that it all blended together. The nuts gave off a nice crunchy texture as well. For meat lovers, they might want to try the SURF n TURF TRIO. A nice mixture of shrimps and meat, you won't go wrong with ordering this. To top it all off, you might want to try the HAZELNUT BROWNIE ALA MODE for dessert.
CALIFORNIA PIZZA KITCHEN has a lot of restaurant locations in the metro. You could visit them in Alabang Town Center, Bonifacio High Street, Greenbelt 5, Greenhills, Mall of Asia, Century City Mall, and Shangri-la Plaza East Wing.

CALIFORNIA PIZZA KITCHEN: PIZZA WARS 2016

On a pleasant afternoon, the FINALS of CALIFORNIA PIZZA KITCHEN'S PIZZA WARS was held in the EDSA SHANGRI-LA MALL Branch. Here, certain culinary personalities were in attendance to judge the 3 finalist in terms of appearance, flavor and creativity.
Judging the competition were the big bosses from CPK and two internationally renowned Filipino Chefs. Chef Sau del Rosario and Chef Sandy Daza.

As with any competition, the participating chefs showed their skills and described the process of making the different pizzas. One common denominator for this year finalists is that they are all seafood themed pizza.
While waiting, a couple of dishes were served to keep our tummies happy. The TUSCAN HUMMUS DIP was pretty good. The flavor wasn't overwhelming and the bread went well with it. For something healthy, they also served the THAI CRUNCH SALAD. I liked the texture and the sweet and savory taste of the salad. The crunchy noodles went well with the vegetables.
As with any competition, there could only be one winner. The judges explained that they had a hard time deciding which among the 3 finalist would win.
In third place, the COD with MANGO and CUCUMBER SALSA of Chef Noel Araneta. The Cod was deep fried and coated with perfectly. The salsa gave it a sweet flavor in which the Filipino palette is in tuned. A little more fine tuning and this would be the perfect pizza.
In second place, the DYNAMITE SHRIMP from Chef Jerric Venezuela. Deep fried shrimp poppers were placed on top the chewy pizza. This one had a bit of kick in it. A little hot but a choice pizza for spicy food lovers.

The winner for this year is the ANCHOVIES and GOAT CHEESE PIZZA.  The Creation of Chef Rodel Pico of CPK BGC made the cut. The saltiness of the anchovies worked well with the pepper and the apple slices. There was a contrast between sweet and salty. The complexity of the flavors worked and a new pizza is thus crowned.

Actually, all the 3 pizzas are winners. They would be rolled out in all of the branches of CALIFORNIA PIZZA KITCHEN in MANILA and would be part of the menu in the coming weeks. I can't wait to get another bite of that anchovy pizza as I really appreciate the different flavors it gave out.
