CRYSTAL JADE BGC: NEW MENU for 2016

Crystal Jade in BGC has been the to go place for authentic Chinese Cuisine in BGC. Since it is the new year, the restaurant opted to bring in other Chinese dishes made popular by their other brand CRYSTAL JADE Shanghai delights in Greenhills. This made the menu of Crystal Jade BGC bigger and better. More choices for us foodies.
You could start off with some fruit shakes to cool off.
Began the meal with some Raddish Puffs.
Perfectly fried. No excess oil and the pastry tasted fresh.
Of course, the XIAO LONG BAO was also served. If you aren't familiar with it, I suggest you go out and try it. Basically, there is a soupy liquid inside the wrapper along with a meat dumpling depending on the flavor. It could be pork, crabs, and a lot more. Remember to eat it carefully as it would be peeping hot.
The beef balls were a revelations. Granted that it didn't look appetizing, one bite and I got hooked. It was smooth and the flavor was present. As such, I wasn't surprised that this dish was a best seller.
To the delight of many noodle dish fans, CRYSTAL JADE now serves SOUP NOODLE with DRIED SHRIMP and Peanut in Spicy Sauce. Commonly known as TAN TAN MIAN.  Surprisingly, the sauce wasn't as spicy as one would believe it was. The peanut flavor blended well with the soup. The noodles were firmed and the meat delicious. One bowl is actually big enough for 2-3 persons to share.
One can't get enough of the SWEET and SOUR PORK. The pork was perfectly deep fried and the sauce wasn't overpowering. I liked it.
As with any Chinese Meal, the rice was served towards the end. Properly done and not too oily.
To end the meal, we had the Almond Jelly with Lychee. It wasn't too sweet as such I enjoyed it. Very refreshing.

Crystal Jade BGC is welcoming the New Year with a lot of additional items in its menu. I am pleasantly surprised that they could carry a lot and yet still serve quality and affordable Chinese Dishes in the BGC area. Cheers.

CRYSTAL JADE BGC: What the Chef Recommends

New Year, New Life and awesome new dishes in CRYSTAL JADE DINING IN.

When I am in BGC, I can't help but suggest CRYSTAL JADE as the place to go to for Chinese Food. The vibe is relaxing and this is where you could do those power lunches or hold some family dinners.

Since it was a new year, CRYSTAL JADE wanted to let us try their new offerings. I was definitely not going to miss this event as I was floored the last time I went and tried out their thanksgiving dishes (CLICK HERE) Just in time for the Chinese New Year!!!
For the first time, I was able to try  YU SHENG (LO HEI) or PROSPERITY TOSS.
Different ingredients that represent good luck and fortune. The thing to go about it was to use chopsticks and toss the ingredients high.
and this is what you get.
Fresh ingredients all tossed up. The dressing was on the sweet side but it definitely tasted good.

Then they brought out the duck. ROASTED PEKING DUCK. Look at that beauty.
Look at that skin.
Yes that skin. Juicy and fat!
Then, they placed it in those pancake wrappers. The perfect way to eat it all.

Another way they served the duck was to make noodles with it. BRAISED NOODLES with SHREDDED DUCK MEAT and MUSHROOMS.
For soup, we had the DOUBLE-BOILED FISH with white fungus and papaya.
I am not really a fish soup eater but I will make an exception for this one. The papaya was soft and the fish meat felt as if it was beef. It was that freaking good. I would go back for this!

We were then served SESAME BALLS. Stuffed with fresh mushroom.
When these were brought to our table, I thought that they were BUCHI. In a way, they were. Instead of sweet gooey insides, bits of mushrooms were in it. Although I little oily, I wouldn't mind getting them again.
We were also able to try CRISPY PRAWN with sliced apples.
The sauce was sweet and sour and the meat was juicy and tender. Not overcooked.

Another fish dish was the STEAMED GAROUPA with OLIVE.
Although it looked pretty and the fish was definitely fresh, it lacked the olive flavor. It was there but a bit subtle. I would have wanted more of that flavor.

Needless to say, I didn't pay attention to much to the assorted veggies. These were sauteed and I just gave my part to others the group. Just because.

The Coffee Jelly bites were a perfect way to end the meal.
They were firm yet weren't dry. I liked the coffee flavor. YUMMY~!

More than the place and the vibe, CRYSTAL JADE in BGC has been a go to resto for straight up Chinese food. Cooked and served right, you won't go wrong with them. Even if it is a little pricey dining here, you would definitely get your due with the quality and the service.

UPDATED: MID-AUTUMN FESTIVAL in CRYSTAL JADE DINING IN BGC!!! EXTENDED till SEPTEMBER 30

Unknown to most of my friends, my family came from simple beginnings. My grandpa used to be a taxi driver while my dad a scholar. My mom well let's just say she's my mom. They both went through a lot of things to get to where they are right now. I guess I wouldn't be here if it weren't for them. We definitely got a lot to be thankful for as a family.  I am also grateful for the experience and the friends that I have. I get to share my blessings with them and I get to live my life to the fullest.

Why am I getting all sentimental? For the Chinese Folks, it's Mid-Autumn already and one would tend to think about the things that they have. Its that time of the year to be celebrating three fundamental concepts: GATHERING, THANKSGIVING and PRAYING.
A week ago, my blogger friends and I were invited to CRYSTAL JADE DINING IN in BGC to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival. You see, for The Chinese-Filipinos, this is the time of the year to be thankful, grateful and enjoy each other company. This festive season is somewhat second only to Chinese New Year. It was a nice experience to celebrate it with friends which I consider awesome and super duper IDOLS in the blogging world.

Located right in the center of everything happening in BGC, the place is fine-dining yet relaxed when it comes to Chinese Cuisine.

We were able to try out different dishes that would be served for the MID-AUTUMN FESTIVAL SET from September 1-15 extended until SEPTEMBER 30!!! . Aside from that, we got to play the Mooncake Dice Game.

Instead of the usual pecking duck, we got served the healthier version. Chicken. JIANG NAN CRISPY SLICED CHICKEN WRAPPED IN PANCAKE
Prepared as to how Pecking Ducks are, these chicken are wrapped up in pancake and has hoisin sauce placed inside. The skin was crunchy and the meat moist.
The SHREDDED CHICKEN with FRESH FRUIT SALAD was the other way this chicken was served. Generous portion and serving of fresh fruits mixed up with the chicken. Something different as I don't normally do this. Definitely refreshing for the humid weather we had that day.
One of my favorites would be the the DEEP FRIED GAROUPA BALLS with SWEET & SOUR SAUCE. When a table mate told me to try the fish, I was dumbfounded. She was definitely referring to this dish. I never thought in a thousand years that it was fish. Crispy and crunchy and molded into ball like figures, you would have a fun time eating this.
To heat up our tummies, we also got a serving of POACHED CHICKEN with CORDYCEP FLOWER and BEANCURD SOUP.

For the health conscious, the SAUTEED SHRIMP with BROCCOLI FLOWER was served. The main ingredients of this dish wasn't overcooked. The shrimp was cooked to perfection. It's amazing how I was able to eat the broccoli. It tasted acceptable for a non veggie eater like me.
One can't live without rice. We got the CRYSTAL JADE FRIED RICE. Not too oily and easy enough to stuff your tummy with. YUMMY!
The BRAISED HOMEMADE BEANCURD with MUSHROOM was presented next to the group. Huge cubes of Tofu topped up with mushroom. Excellent pairing.
To end the meal, each one got a mini mooncake. I am not really a fan of mooncakes but I did like this one.

From here, the party started! Kenneth asked us all to join him around a table to play the MOONCAKE DICE GAME. It was actually my first time doing this so I didn't know how the game goes.
He explained to us that we get to roll 6 dices and if we could get a particular combination, we win a price.
It would all boil down to a number four and some combinations and pairs.

I would have to say, one lucky roller couple would be Mr. Pickiest Eater and the Mrs.
They were super duper lucky!!!
I guess its with all the pre-throw ritual of closing the eyes and praying really hard.
Rina was able to get the highest combination so she got the grand daddy of the prizes.
Richie couldn't help but be happy too!
Because, he got the envelope and placed it straight in his pocket!
Kidding aside, this blessed and funny couple definitely know how to roll!
Congrats guys!

Don't fret! Like them, you could also try your luck when you dine at Crystal Jade. With every 5,000 Php worth of spending, you get to try you luck with a roll of the dice and get to take home 1,000 Php Gc.

The service is top notch and you won't regret spending your lunch or dinner here. If you are in for a little mix and match or up for a set meal, budget around 800-1000 Php per person when dining in.

The new set menus are more affordable when you get them as such by a few thousand bucks so I would suggest you go for it. A set good for 4-5pax would cost around Php 3,800+ (originally Php 5,000) while for 8-9 pax it would cost Php 7,800+ (orinigally at Php 10,000). Now that's a deal.

Now if only I could dance and do the pregame ritual so that I could roll up that perfect combination.

CRYSTAL JADE's QUALITY DINNER DIMSUM BUFFET!!!

One sniff and you know its good. Drooling over Chinese Food for the past few day have definitely taken a toll on me. Thankfully, CRYSTAL JADE came up with a weekday dimsum dinner buffet.
Priced at just 488++ Php, this quality filled dinner buffet starts up at 6pm all the way to 9:30pm from Monday-Friday.

The last time I went to this place was a few years back. I lined up and tried their famous Xiao Long Bao! I was fantasizing about it during traffic and then I saw myself already there. When I arrived, I saw a bunch of friends already waiting for the scrumptious meal.

I loved the color... they matched my phone and my polo!

Because it was pretty much hot, I had a try at their GREEN MANGO MILK SHAKE WITH SAGO (125Php)
Although not part of the buffet (they got unlimited iced tea or hot tea partnered with the buffet) , this drink is a must try. Has a hint of milk, the green mangoes didn't over power the drink. Yummy!
To start things off, we had a try at the COLD CUCUMBER with MINCED GARLIC in SESAME OIL.
 Light and cool. Something healthy!
We also got a bowl of CONGEE with SALTED PORK and PRESERVED EGG.
Something warm to soothe the tummy.
One of my favorites, the NOODLES with SPRING ONION OIL is simple and straight forward.
Really yummy! I loved how the noodles are made fresh and has a light note to it.
The "BEIJING" Pork Dumpling is simple and unassuming.
A crowd favorite, the PORK DUMPLING with HOT CHILI SAUCE.
Not really that hot, the chili flavor compliments the soft dumpling.
A healthier option would be the Minced Pork Dumpling with String Bean.
The string bean added a crunch to this dish.
Lovely buns! The PAN-FRIED SHANGHAI PORK BUN. Delicious!
The crunchy bottom is a lovely contrast to the soft top. The meat inside is lovely!
EEEEKKKKK!!!!! The STEAMED VEGETABLE DUMPLING is not for me.
Although pretty healthy, the taste is for someone more familiar with the dish. The flavor was earthy and pretty much and definitely not for me.
"SIEW MAI" or STEAMED PORK and DUMPLING with CRAB ROE.
You would get that feel that it was freshly made as it has a soft interior and it's not dry. Lovely!

The next two dishes would definitely be my dad's favorite.

The CHICKEN FEET  with BLACK BEANS SAUCE is for the people that love the skin and has a feel for the feet. I stayed away from this. LOL!
SPARE RIBS with BLACK BEAN SAUCE has a mild feel. This will go well with rice. Yeah! Definitely!
The PAN-FRIED CARROT CAKE with DRIED SHRIMP and PRESERVED MEAT is something I miss whenever I go out to Chinese restaurants. Although I like the stuff, I got to say it was pretty oily and I'm trying to have myself in check.. DAMN DIET! This was served with hoisin sauce which gives it a sweet feel.
I love the  DEEP-FRIED SPRING ROLL. Crunchy outside and the stuffing is pretty much awesome!
Of course, you got to get the most awesomest dish of all. The XIAO LONG BAO!!!!
Partnered with a little black vinegar with ginger, this classic dumpling is perfectly cooked. The skin is soft and not too thick. The soup is yummy and the meat is flavorful. Eat it anyway you want. Dip it, and put the entire thing in your mouth! Take note though, the soup inside would burst and it would be pretty hot! Or, you could do it the subtle way. Place it on a spoon, with some sauce. Bite off the top to let it cool. Then put it all in! DELICIOUS!!!

Rest assured, you get your money's worth. The food is made fresh so you won't get that feeling that you got ripped off. Although it may take a while, the quality won't suffer and I guess that is what we are all after. Casual dining for the Chinese Food Lover!
