CUSTAROONS: Dessert like no other

Believe it or not it was my first time. I would usually see CUSTAROONS kiosks in different malls in the metro. Some friends would tell me that they offer amazing not your ordinary dessert. I never did get to try it until one day, they sent a few over.
One should start with the original. The CUSTAROONS. A mix between the classic macaroon and other fillings, one bite would not be enough. There's a caramelicious after taste yet the sweetness is just right.
They also have the bigger version that could be made up of various flavors. Some would be green tea, coffee, and even chocolate. Speaking off, The custaroon poppers would be the ideal gift to a person you like. Best served chilled, these delightful creations are deadly.
Just be sure to eat them quick as it might go soft when left in room temperature. It's like custaroons but has a more chocolatey bite.
CUSTAROONS are found in major malls in the metro. You could check out their product listing at http://www.custaroons.com

HONEY CREME MANILA: OPENS TODAY in SM AURA

Craving for something not too sweet yet perfect for the hot humid weather? I believe HONEY CREME could solve that problem.

HONEY CREME officially opens today in SM AURA. Located on level 4 and right beside the cinema level, this small foodie stopover serves premium soft ice cream made from fresh milk.

This brand of soft serve ice cream is popular in our neighboring countries specially since it's quite hot and humid. Although HONEY CREME first opened in Taiwan in the year 2014, it gained traction in the southeast countries. Lucky for us, they are now open to serve the FILIPINOS.

One fascinating thing about HONEY CREME is that they go for the organic ingredients. Basically, you go there for the original soft serve ice cream and you pick their toppings. The soft serve ice cream is rich, creamy and has that right soft texture. It wasn't too sweet and it just reminds me of Sunday morning. It's like having amazing milk turned into ice cream.
Another best seller is their HONEY COMB topping. It is just perfect for sweet tooth.

You see, you can pick between getting your ice cream on a cup or on a cone. I would suggest that you go for the cup as it's less messy.

If it's your first time, try the HONEYCOMB (185Php). It let's you taste the ice cream as is and allows you to temper the sweet level. The Honey Comb is super sweet. You have been warned.

Another crowd favorite is the ROCK SALT DARK CHOCOLATE (165Php). Think fudge and it becomes a shell on top.
The Caramel Popcorn variant on the upper right, is just all right for me.

Another sugar rush variety is the ORGANIC COTTON CANDY with AFFOGATO (185Php). The cotton candy on top is white because it is made with organic sugar without the food coloring and other preservatives. The shot of expresso added balanced out the sweet flavor.

If you are going cone, I suggest you try the ORGANIC MIXED GRAINS (185Php). I can't describe it but I enjoyed the powdery texture of the grains. If there is one that you must have and you aren't into too sweet desserts, this is a must try.

HONEY CREME is a nice welcome treat for all the sweet loving foodies in the metro. I enjoyed the rich taste of the soft serve ice cream. Honestly though, if you ask me, I will not line up if it's more than 10-15 minutes wait. It wasn't so mind blowing that I will stay there for more than that. It is a nice treat though. I would suggest that you go there on a non-peak hour or wait a couple of weeks to avoid the rush. Since they are also opening another branch in TRINOMA in the coming days, you may want to try it there too.

LE PETIT SOUFFLE : Not Just Desserts

French Japanese Food? Weird concept but it actually works. At LE PETIT SOUFFLE, you won't really mind that the food is foreign for most of us. After all, you just have to try out the different things Chef Miko and his team planned and executed in this new restaurant.
Wait.. CODING!!!! Yes, I went to Makati not minding that my car was not allowed to go there.I just remembered this when my friends asked me , how was I able to get in Makati.

One step inside LE PETIT SOUFFLE, I figured it was all worth it. It is as if you are outdoors. Under that favorite tree, waiting for delicious food to be served.
From the start, I was blown away.

On the left, YAKULT + GUAVA (375Php) was something familiar yet pretty weird. Deliciously weird.
On the right, STRAWBERRY + MINT + CELERY (375Php) is their kind of iced tea. Refreshing!
Since this has been the trend, COLD MATCHA LATTE with MATCHA SOFTEE (170Php)
Matcha overload for everyone. Creamy. Cold.

For soup, they had the SWEET CORN POTAGE (195Php)

If you aren't into corn, they have ONION SOUP (220Php) and JAPANESE CURRY SQUASH (195Php).
The JAPANESE CURRY SQUASH is a standout for me. The squash was not over powered by the curry. It actually complimented it. Amazing.

SESAME CRUSTED TUNA SALAD (345Php). Seared tuna. The dressing was sesame wasabi. It went well with the salad.

MAC and FOIE (625Php) Macaroni with 3 cheese. Sharp cheddar, emmental and gruyere. Huge portions of foie gras right there for the taking. Cheesy goodness.

PANCETTA CARBONARA (355Php) Aged pancetta does the trick. A little smokey meat that works well with the fettucine.

For healthy eaters, they have the VEGETARIAN SOBA PASTA (325Php)

Simple yet filling. This soba dish is based on shoyu sauce.

For a quick snack, they also serve CROQUE MONSIEUR (375Php)
With Bechamel sauce, they used black forest ham and topped with gratinated raclette.

SQUID INK RICE (395Php)!!!! This baby right here, is one of the most delicious dishes I had that day. The rice isn't soggy. It has the right firmness. The squid ink flavor is there for the taking. Served with a lot of seafood, you will be pleased with this dish.

Something new on their menu, the CRISPY RAMEN CHICKEN (355Php)
Deep fried Chicken cutlets served with Shoyu ramen as breading. A tonkotsu- wasabi sauce and Buttery sesame sriracha sauce on the side.

A meal in itself, the JAPANESE BEEF CURRY SOUFFLE (525Php) is filled with strips of US BEEF short plate and japanese short grain rice. The curry sauce isn't overpowering.

PARFAIT are ice cream made better. They have different toppings that make them awesome and perfect for the summer heat. I was able to try out the
 MATCHA PARFAIT (220Php). I'm a MATCHA addict.
SALTED EGG CARAMEL PARFAIT (220Php). Salty yet sweet.
STRAWBERRY LYCHEE PARFAIT (220Php). Sweet and simple.

and as the name of the restaurant goes, they too serve souffle. These babies take almost 30 minutes to prepare. Also, they do flatten or pop if you leave it for awhile. So you better hurry eating them. Unfortunately, the flavors were a bit lacking. It is not as intense as I want it to be. It is a bit subtle.

MATCHA VALRHONA IVOIRE 35% white chocolate souffle with vanilla cream Anglaise (350Php)
and FRENCH VANILLA BEAN SOUFFLE with vanilla cream Angliase (300Php).

A dessert creation that is incredible is the VALRHONA MANJARI and MIXED BERRY SOUFFLE GLACE (325Php). Unlike the souffle, this one could stand on its own. Dark chocolate valrhona frozen souffle served with mixed berry compote.

Last but not the least, the VALRHONA GRAND CRUS (375Php). This is my favorite dessert. Not too sweet and just right. Although a little pricey, you must not deny yourself of this wonderful creation. Kudos to Chef Miko!
Layers of Valrhona chocolate. Araguani 72% flourless cake, caramelia 36% sponge. Dulcey 32% ganache and Equatoriale 55% ganache. Served with a vanilla bean creme anglaise sauce.

Honestly, the dishes are affordable for the quality. Although they need a bit of tweaking, LE PETIT SOUFFLE is a contender in the dessert category. Making great use of French techniques, CHEF MIKO has done it again.

Don't be intimidated by the place. Have a go at it. It is worth it.

SCOUT'S HONOR : Sweet Endings for Valentine's

The love date is coming and Chef Miko is definitely working out a sweat!

Located on the top most floor of CENTURY CITY MALL, SCOUT'S HONOR is one of the best places to get your dessert high. Chef Miko made a great deal of impression from having to head MAGNUM and now he is trying to expand his reach with SCOUT'S HONOR.
This Craft Cookie Shop has been a go to place for dessert lovers. You can even make your own cookie but they have awesome and delicious go to's.
Whether it be this delicious cream filled and imaginative desserts.
Or to the usual looking yet incredibly awesome cookies.
(someone wanted to eat that half cut cookie ahead of me)

This Lovey Dovey season, Scout's Honor wanted to have a little go with MERINGUE.
Simple as it is, they made it perfectly. It has that crunch that you would look for. It has a little treat inside too. A sort of filling. A surprise.

The best one to go for is this ROSE PRALINE.  It looks incredible. Perfect for the love month right?
According to the chef, Praline has been the go to ingredients for pastry chef in Europe. They go gaga over it.

Matcha lovers would rejoice as they made MATCHA BLACK SESAME.
Perfect yet weird combination if you tell me.

For the adventurous, the ORANGE POPPY SEED and ALMOND is the way to go.
Poppy seed. If you are familiar with it, you might say why. Chef says, why not? The texture helps in giving you something more. Seeds and almonds are just there on my snack list.

These meringue are available for the season of love and would change flavors and shape to surprise us.

Please don't tell me that you haven't had a go with SCOUT'S HONOR. Perfect way to end a night with your love one. Sweet and brings out the kid in all of us.

3 Inch Sin: My favorite Kind of Sin!!!

When you think of love, what food goes into your head? Chocolates would be my answer. It not only goes into my head but also pops in my tummy which melts my heart. Since I am really into gooey melty OMG chocolates, C, S and I went all the way to Millenia Walk for dessert.
Even if we had our late lunch in Chinatown, we traveled far just to get to Millenia Walk.
It wasn't their idea it was mine
(ako na ang may alam sa pasikot sikot LOL!!!).
Yes, it was definitely worth it!
