HOLIDAY SEASON IN HOTEL JEN MANILA

That amazing sight. This was one of the many dishes that stood out at the recently held CHRISTMAS TREE Lighting Event at HOTEL JEN MANILA.
Because of the Christmas rush, I was pretty early at the event. Believe it or not, I think I was there 2 hours before the call time. Thankfully, Hotel Jen is one of the few hotels in the metro that openly offer their valet service at no cost. Granted, that you as a guest do get your ticket validated. Going back, there was a sweet and simple ceremony. There was a choir and even a couple of singers having a blast in front of a huge crowd.
As a foodie, I was pleasantly surprised and happy with the spread that HOTEL JEN prepared. Aside from the huge prime rib, there were a number of side dishes that went well with it. Furthermore, Latitude even brought out more dishes that would make your stomach happy and your eyes salivate.
They had roasted pork belly that was super tender and crispy. Plus, they also had sweet ham. Definitely reminisce of how Filipinos spend their Christmas eve together. Just partner it with a piece of bread and it's good to go.
Healthy food lovers need not despair as they have tons of choices. Aside from the fresh sashimi and sushi, they also had a number of must try salads and other appetizers.

It was pretty fun seeing clams, shrimps, crabs, and other seafood delights were packed in ready to carry tin cups.
HOTEL JEN MANILA celebrates the holiday season by inviting everyone to head on over and have a jolly good time by staying for a night or two. Plus, they have a special New Year's Eve Countdown that is definitely festive. Cheers!

LEAVE BORING BEHIND: HOTEL JEN'S INNOVATIVE PUSH

It's always like that. The same old boring routine. Over and over again, same old same old. It tends to get the best of us. When we've been doing something for a long time, it seems that we can't escape it. It becomes our norm. With HOTEL JEN, they want you to LEAVE BORING BEHIND. Start a new and go for something different.
Just recently, HOTEL JEN worldwide held a launch to their LEAVE BORING BEHIND CAMPAIGN. Here in Manila, HOTEL JEN went above and beyond and brought some delicious dishes for different influencers to try out.
Drinks were brought out first. While waiting for everyone to calm down and relax, different cocktail creations were served. Some were fruity while others were chocolatey.
One standout would be a mandarin orange based mixture. Whipped cream is added on top and it has a sweet and tangy taste. A perfect creation of their mixologist. Just look for Ric and you'll be in fine hands.
To celebrate this new endeavor, different dishes were created by HOTEL JENS from all over. The first one would be the CHILLI CRAB FONDUE. Created by HOTEL JEN TANGLIN in SINGAPORE, this one is a twist to the normal chilli crab. Fresh ingredients were used to create a spicy yet tasty dip. The crab fondue is presented inside a bread bowl. Personally, I like taking a piece of bread and dipping it in the chilli crab.
From HOTEL JEN PUTERI HARBOUR, JOHOR, the LAKSA JOHOR SLIDER is different. A fish patty is placed in the middle of spaghetti buns. There is a curry flavor that lingers with each bite.
A favorite would be the SMOKED PULLED LAMB PONGTEH. Hotel Jen Penang created this dish as inspired by hearty barbecues in Southern America. The lamb absorbed the smokey flavor. A nyonya-style soya bean paste was spread evenly on the focaccia bread. Making it a full head on experience.
Hotel Jen Orchard Gateway Singapore made laksa into something different. The LAKSA LEMAK SINGAPURA is not your ordinary laksa fried rice. This alternative take on peranakan dish has infused a bit of spicy aromatic flavor into the rice. A surprise of chilli sambal is also present to even out the taste.
Proudly FILIPINO MADE, the GINATAANG TURON or plaintain, coconut and glutinous rice balls is mixed into a fritter. HOTEL JEN MANILA mastered a Filipino delicacy and made it into something more. By mixing the rice balls into the turon, a delicious dessert is born.

More than anything, the night would not have been amazing if it wasn't for the talent and hard work of the people in the kitchen. Thank you very much Chef Sonny Almandres and your team for having us and serving these regional creations.

With the bustling lights and sounds after dark, HOTEL JEN offers something more. Situated in a strategic location, HOTEL JEN MANILA can offer the perfect night life. AFTER HOURS as one would say. Guests could visit MALATE to experience an old school night time vibe. Different clubs and late night restaurants are perfect rendezvous spots for a night cap. Nearby, huge malls like the MALL of ASIA would also be the perfect venue to watch a late night movie. Others may also try to ICE SKATE and even play Bowling and Billiards. One could check out HOTEL JEN'S WEBSITE and see where night activities occur. Do check out the night life map. (website click here.)

HOTEL JEN MANILA: Happy 1st Birthday

Last Thursday, March 31, HOTEL JEN in MANILA celebrated its first birthday. Yes, Hotel Jen all over the world celebrated their first year.

In true Filipino Spirit, a program consisting of traditional dances like tinikling and even Filipino parlor games were dished out by Hotel Jen Manila. After having such, the party started with food. Glorious food.
Filipino cuisine were presented to different guests and of course the main part of any Filipino Party would be the LECHON or roasted pig.
The lechon was pretty much what it is. Delicious and moist and yummy. Great Job Chef!
Aside from other Filipino main dishes like kare-kare, kaldereta, liempo, they also had some healthy and delicious appetizers. Salads and rolls.
To end the meal, local dessert dishes were also served. They even had a dirty ice cream set up to complete the fiesta feel.
Afterwards, they showed us the newly opened Windows by the Bay. This is the club lounge that is now open to the public after 7:30pm.

At the 19th floor, you get to see the view of the Manila Bay and the adjacent structures like the amusement park nearby and also all the night lights.

Indeed, HOTEL JEN MANILA has brought its A game to celebrate its first year. By becoming a go to leisure and business hotel in the Manila Area, you get a no frills and all relaxation treatment when you stay here. For me, Hotel Jen is basically a travelers' hotel. Perfect for sleep and relaxation.

NEW YEAR PARTY in HOTEL JEN MANILA

Since my mom and brother were staying abroad for the holidays, my dad and I figured that we should have a staycation instead of the usual fireworks and late night shindigs at home. Since I wanted my dad to experience something different, we opted to book a room at HOTEL JEN MANILA.

HOTEL JEN MANILA is located across CCP and is along Roxas Boulevard. It was the old Holiday Inn that transformed into Trader's and is now Hotel Jen under the Shangri-la Group.
We figured that since we were there for New Year's, we bought a couple of tickets to their Countdown Party.
After checking in and settling down, this was the view out of of the window.
Since the party doesn't start till late, I went and opted for a quick snack. Although pricey at around 150Php, the oats with fruits was pretty good. It was refreshing.
At around 10pm, my dad and I went upstairs to the 19th floor club lounge to join the party.

Everything was taken cared of. There was even a dance floor. All the guests had individual tables and chairs assigned to them so it was really organized.
Drinks were unlimited from local beers to juices and soft drinks. I went around though and checked out the food.

I enjoyed these salmon mousse. Pretty good. Neutral and not too heavy.
Fruits and salads were abundant.
The mango and shrimp salad was pretty good too.

Japanese rolls were also present.

Aside from the hor d'oeuvres and finger food. They also had a bunch of viands that would stand in a meal. Desserts were also present. From different short cakes to fruits.
A few minutes before the stroke of midnight, champagne flutes were distributed and the count down commenced.
IT was awesome. The DJ really knew how to play and had the party going. People went on the dance floor and danced and then BOOM!!! Happy New Year!
And that was my New Year's Eve experience. I shared it with my dad, who actually enjoyed it. It was his first time to actually have a staycation experience as he usually stays in hotels for out of town business. Anyway, I hope 2016 brings more luck, blessings, good health, and love to everyone. Cheers!

KITSHO Weekend BUffet: Hotel Jen Manila's Japanese Restaurant and Sake Bar

Aside from having an amazing time and a simple staycation in HOTEL JEN MANILA, one of the highlights of my weekend was having to partake of the weekend buffet at KITSHO. KITSHO is the Japanese Restaurant and Sake Bar that Hotel Jen Manila has. It's interior is reminisce of a classic Ryotei. Small meeting rooms for private affairs are present. Just in case you didn't want to be disturbed.
Since we visited on a weekend lunch, they offered the sit down buffet ala carte. Meaning to say, you get to have your preferred hot dishes cooked. For the price of 980Php Nett, I believe it is quite a steal. Being a Japanese restaurant, they have all the bases covered. They offered sashimi, sushi and other delectable entree.
The bar was littered with fresh seafood. From cuts of salmon and other sashimi.

Tuna was also present among others.
Knowing that most Filipinos are into rolls, they also had prepared a number of such.
Others were done so in a way that cooked vinegared rice was placed underneath.
More so, they also had other dishes readily available. Like salads, soup and these asparagus wrapped beef. Although a little sweet, I enjoyed a couple.
Sukiyaki was also part of the spread. It will only be cooked when you order. Not to worry though, it's pretty fast. US BEEF was used to make the meat more tender. I enjoyed this because the flavors were present and not overwhelmingly sweet.
Aside from the meat, it also contained some vegetables and glass noodles.
After warming up, each of the guests would be given a list of hot entrees. Here, you could pick your fancy and they would cook it for you.
To start, we had some Yakisoba. Looks could be deceiving. This dish had a mild hint of sour taste mixed with saltiness. It was pretty good.
What is a Japanese Meal without Tempura? Shrimp Tempura was served. Huge shrimp and plain delicious.
A must try is the shrimp with chili sauce. It wasn't as spicy as one would be led to believe but the sweetness blends well with the heat.
Just a note though, don't pass up the chance of having their OYSTERS! These are from HIROSHIMA. Plump and delicious. Perfectly done. This actually makes the buffet all worth it.
For dessert, they have fruits upon fruits that were laid out. Just there for the taking.
Since it was a special occasion, we went ahead and forego with the fruits. Rather we had the DIRTY MILKSHAKE. If you're familiar with scramble or milky creamy iced drink that you could buy from the streets, these are basically the same. Except that, these are on a different level. Whipped cream on top plus different toppings.
From chocolate, to banana caramel and strawberry, you could really enjoy your sweet tooth. Although it is not part of the buffet, it would be nice to give it a go.

HOTEL JEN's KITSHO is a wonderful hidden Japanese Restaurant. Aside from offering fresh sashimi and sushi, their buffet is also simply yet delicious. For the price, it is pretty much worth it. So yes, I'm definitely going back!
