ENJOYING THE CHINESE NEW YEAR AT HOTEL JEN MANILA

If there was one hotel buffet that I was proud of, it would be HOTEL JEN MANILA'S LATTITUDE. There has been an increased in its guests because of the quality of the dishes that it serves. It may not have a large number of dishes but it does make them so with flavor in mind. Basically, they have everything that you may want and with service in mind, they got your back.
Checking them out on Chinese New Year was a treat. Aside from the different stations that you would see on a normal day, they made sure to have a number of Chinese dishes in the spread. Steamed whole fish and a number of pecking duck, chicken dishes, and liempo were prepared to fill up the guests' tummies.
The pecking duck was pretty good as it was sliced as you requested for it. The skin was perfect and the meat tender.
Speaking of meat, their prime rib is a must. Juicy and soft to the bones, each bite would yield a mouthful. If it's too red for you, you could ask them to sear the slice of steak to your liking.
Now, they also had a number of dumplings and dimsum and even siopao on hand. I got to say though that they're pretty good. The siopao wasn't dry and it was filled with pretty good asado fillings. Now, the chicken with lemon was pretty sweet but not overly so. It's what you could call a perfect rice match.
Now, Lattitude of HOTEL JEN MANILA has more to offer. Daily, they change their spread to adapt to a different theme. Sometimes it could be Asian, on other days Mediterranean. So, it's basically a surprise for everyone.
Lattitude is on the ground floor of Hotel Jen Manila. It's the in house buffet restaurant of the hotel.

LEAVE BORING BEHIND: HOTEL JEN'S INNOVATIVE PUSH

It's always like that. The same old boring routine. Over and over again, same old same old. It tends to get the best of us. When we've been doing something for a long time, it seems that we can't escape it. It becomes our norm. With HOTEL JEN, they want you to LEAVE BORING BEHIND. Start a new and go for something different.
Just recently, HOTEL JEN worldwide held a launch to their LEAVE BORING BEHIND CAMPAIGN. Here in Manila, HOTEL JEN went above and beyond and brought some delicious dishes for different influencers to try out.
Drinks were brought out first. While waiting for everyone to calm down and relax, different cocktail creations were served. Some were fruity while others were chocolatey.
One standout would be a mandarin orange based mixture. Whipped cream is added on top and it has a sweet and tangy taste. A perfect creation of their mixologist. Just look for Ric and you'll be in fine hands.
To celebrate this new endeavor, different dishes were created by HOTEL JENS from all over. The first one would be the CHILLI CRAB FONDUE. Created by HOTEL JEN TANGLIN in SINGAPORE, this one is a twist to the normal chilli crab. Fresh ingredients were used to create a spicy yet tasty dip. The crab fondue is presented inside a bread bowl. Personally, I like taking a piece of bread and dipping it in the chilli crab.
From HOTEL JEN PUTERI HARBOUR, JOHOR, the LAKSA JOHOR SLIDER is different. A fish patty is placed in the middle of spaghetti buns. There is a curry flavor that lingers with each bite.
A favorite would be the SMOKED PULLED LAMB PONGTEH. Hotel Jen Penang created this dish as inspired by hearty barbecues in Southern America. The lamb absorbed the smokey flavor. A nyonya-style soya bean paste was spread evenly on the focaccia bread. Making it a full head on experience.
Hotel Jen Orchard Gateway Singapore made laksa into something different. The LAKSA LEMAK SINGAPURA is not your ordinary laksa fried rice. This alternative take on peranakan dish has infused a bit of spicy aromatic flavor into the rice. A surprise of chilli sambal is also present to even out the taste.
Proudly FILIPINO MADE, the GINATAANG TURON or plaintain, coconut and glutinous rice balls is mixed into a fritter. HOTEL JEN MANILA mastered a Filipino delicacy and made it into something more. By mixing the rice balls into the turon, a delicious dessert is born.

More than anything, the night would not have been amazing if it wasn't for the talent and hard work of the people in the kitchen. Thank you very much Chef Sonny Almandres and your team for having us and serving these regional creations.

With the bustling lights and sounds after dark, HOTEL JEN offers something more. Situated in a strategic location, HOTEL JEN MANILA can offer the perfect night life. AFTER HOURS as one would say. Guests could visit MALATE to experience an old school night time vibe. Different clubs and late night restaurants are perfect rendezvous spots for a night cap. Nearby, huge malls like the MALL of ASIA would also be the perfect venue to watch a late night movie. Others may also try to ICE SKATE and even play Bowling and Billiards. One could check out HOTEL JEN'S WEBSITE and see where night activities occur. Do check out the night life map. (website click here.)

KITSHO Weekend BUffet: Hotel Jen Manila's Japanese Restaurant and Sake Bar

Aside from having an amazing time and a simple staycation in HOTEL JEN MANILA, one of the highlights of my weekend was having to partake of the weekend buffet at KITSHO. KITSHO is the Japanese Restaurant and Sake Bar that Hotel Jen Manila has. It's interior is reminisce of a classic Ryotei. Small meeting rooms for private affairs are present. Just in case you didn't want to be disturbed.
Since we visited on a weekend lunch, they offered the sit down buffet ala carte. Meaning to say, you get to have your preferred hot dishes cooked. For the price of 980Php Nett, I believe it is quite a steal. Being a Japanese restaurant, they have all the bases covered. They offered sashimi, sushi and other delectable entree.
The bar was littered with fresh seafood. From cuts of salmon and other sashimi.

Tuna was also present among others.
Knowing that most Filipinos are into rolls, they also had prepared a number of such.
Others were done so in a way that cooked vinegared rice was placed underneath.
More so, they also had other dishes readily available. Like salads, soup and these asparagus wrapped beef. Although a little sweet, I enjoyed a couple.
Sukiyaki was also part of the spread. It will only be cooked when you order. Not to worry though, it's pretty fast. US BEEF was used to make the meat more tender. I enjoyed this because the flavors were present and not overwhelmingly sweet.
Aside from the meat, it also contained some vegetables and glass noodles.
After warming up, each of the guests would be given a list of hot entrees. Here, you could pick your fancy and they would cook it for you.
To start, we had some Yakisoba. Looks could be deceiving. This dish had a mild hint of sour taste mixed with saltiness. It was pretty good.
What is a Japanese Meal without Tempura? Shrimp Tempura was served. Huge shrimp and plain delicious.
A must try is the shrimp with chili sauce. It wasn't as spicy as one would be led to believe but the sweetness blends well with the heat.
Just a note though, don't pass up the chance of having their OYSTERS! These are from HIROSHIMA. Plump and delicious. Perfectly done. This actually makes the buffet all worth it.
For dessert, they have fruits upon fruits that were laid out. Just there for the taking.
Since it was a special occasion, we went ahead and forego with the fruits. Rather we had the DIRTY MILKSHAKE. If you're familiar with scramble or milky creamy iced drink that you could buy from the streets, these are basically the same. Except that, these are on a different level. Whipped cream on top plus different toppings.
From chocolate, to banana caramel and strawberry, you could really enjoy your sweet tooth. Although it is not part of the buffet, it would be nice to give it a go.

HOTEL JEN's KITSHO is a wonderful hidden Japanese Restaurant. Aside from offering fresh sashimi and sushi, their buffet is also simply yet delicious. For the price, it is pretty much worth it. So yes, I'm definitely going back!

HOTEL JEN in MANILA: Don't Judge a Book by Its Cover.

A staycation is something that works well if you don't want to get out of town and just leave all the problems somewhere else. With all the traffic happening right now, staying nearby seems to be the best way to go for the Holidays. Hello HOTEL JEN MANILA.
HOTEL JEN in Manila is located in front of the CCP. Along Roxas Blvd., the facade isn't something that would make you look towards it. You might see it as an old building and disregard it at first glance. Believe me though, I was pleasantly surprised when I went in. For guests they have available valet parking, so it wasn't a problem. Since I stayed in a club room, I went straight to the club lounge for an easy and stress free check-in. Just sign on the dotted line and you're good to go.
While waiting for my friends, I looked around. The room had a 180 degree view of the Manila Bay. Excellent place to check out the sunset and relax. All day non alcoholic drinks are served here.  They also had fast wifi access all around the hotel so it was perfect for those who can't live without being online.
One thing I noticed was that they had a small box that is actually a charging station for the guests. I later found out that they had this around the hotel. Just charge up your gadget and lock it up.
I was pleasantly surprised with the welcome drink. This is the Coffee Halo-Halo. Who would knew that halo halo and coffee would work well together. It wasn't too sweet and I liked it!
I was billeted in a club room. Located on the 18th floor, it was perfect for me. Granted that I stayed alone again, but at least I was able to relax.
There's a "chill area" on the side so that you could look at the Manila Bay while in your room.
The washroom is all right. I was happy that they have a bidet installed. Although, the shower is located in a bathtub. I would have preferred to be in a separate area but it does serve its purpose.
Aside from the welcome fruit cups in the mini ref, I was pleasantly surprise that they have an optional "minibar" on the go. You could pick it up in the lobby for just 400Php Nett. It has a bunch of snacks and drinks that everyone would love. Also, their entertainment system is top notch. From an IPOD DOCK, they have a television that could compute your bill, give other information, show video on demand, and has a bunch of cable channels that would make you happy.
Aside from staying in the room all day, they have a functional gym area.
and a pool. I went back later that night and worked on a few laps. See those mini coolers? They have a chilled mineral water perfect for a hot and sunny day. Thankfully, I was able to float to the other side and by float I mean walk.
At around 5pm, I went on over to the CLUB LOUNGE. During this time, they serve some cocktails and snacks with alcohol and non alcoholic drinks. I was surprised because the spread was actually good for dinner.
This was the perfect time to watch the famous MANILA sunset.
Unfortunately it was a bit cloudy that day, so this was the view.
After a long day, I went back to the room and relaxed. The bed was exceptional. It was amazing for my sleep. The pillows were soft and would make you go to dreamland in an instant. Don't mind the wrinkles on the bed, I sat down before I took a picture.
For breakfast, you had the option of having it in their in-house restaurant LATITUDE. The choices were vast and perfect for a busy day ahead. Aside from the usual morning goodies, they had salads, cereals, yogurt, and other dishes to tickle your fancy. Since, I was too full from the previous day, I just had an omelette made.
For guys that needed to go quickly and had no time for a sit down breakfast, they could just have breakfast to go. A box would be given to you and you could pick some goodies to bring with you and a cup of coffee too.
Since I stayed in a club room, I had access to the breakfast buffet in the club lounge. Here it was perfect bliss. The place wasn't as crowded nor was it as fast paced as LATITUDE. Granted that there were a lot of choices in LATITUDE, here you could go about in your own pace and have a relaxed time.
From soups, to rice porridge and other breakfast choices. It was all there.

Let's be honest here, from the outside you might see HOTEL JEN with an old facade. Something that you would overlook and just disregard. But, I believe in the quote "don't judge a book by it's cover". Once I entered my room and felt the hospitality of the staff, I could say that HOTEL JEN MANILA is a must visit. The view of the Manila Bay Sunset is enough for me to go back. That and everyone is just lovely and genuine with their smiles. I would love to meet JEN and give her a huge thank you hug. She definitely knows how to treat her guests.
