BURGERS AND BREWSKIES at Estancia Capitol Commons

After dinner, my friends and I couldn't decide where to just hang and chill. Since we were in the Ortigas area, we found ourselves driving to CAPITOL COMMONS. Being HEAVY MEAT EATERS and just plain unhealthy, we figured to go on over to BURGERS AND BREWSKIES in CAPITOL COMMONS.

BURGER AND BREWSKIES has been making the news in terms of having creative burgers and amazing appetizers. Delicious yes but just plain deadly. Even if it has been around for more than a year, I haven't tried them out yet until a faithful Tuesday night.
As we entered, I couldn't help but look at the decors and the beer bottles on the ceiling. It seemed like a frat house. The place had only 2 tables occupied at around 9pm. After a few minutes, we saw droves of people coming in and the place was packed at 10:30pm. Incredible on a weekday night.
It has been a long time coming, we needed drinks to unwind and I liked that BURGERS AND BREWSKIES offer 65PHP cocktails for happy hour! Happy Hour is basically all day everyday from 11am till closing and for Fridays and Saturdays which only last till 8pm.  What a steal. Granted that you could only choose from a lychee martini, mojito, margarita, and a rhum coke. Sounds too good for me. If you aren't into them, you could go for their long list of imported and local beers.

If you are a bacon lover, then BURGERS and BREWSKIES is the right place to be at. Case in point.. almost every single dish on the menu has bacon!!!!Since we were still full from dinner, we only had a few dishes coupled with some amazing appetizers.

We started out with KICK ASS SPUDS(85Php). Fried Marbled Potatoes, with BACON and a special mix of herbs and cream. Perfect to munch on while sipping that cold bottle of beer.
A must order starter would be the CUBAN MISSLE (120Php). Grilled Sweet Corn slathered with Mayo and spiced shredded cheese. In this photo we had it removed from the cob. Easier to eat.
The first time I encountered this dish was roughly a year ago at the BEST FOOD FORWARD 2014 (Click here fro my experience). It was one of those dish that you couldn't help yourself. It was pretty hard to stop munching on it. Even if it was messy, it was really delicious.

For all the bacon lovers out there, the BACON CHICHARON (250Php) is the BOMB!!!!! THANK YOU BURGER AND BREWSKIES. Freshly brined thin slices of pork belly, dusted with starch and deep fried. Served with sweet spicy vinegar dip. Each bite would result into a crackling sound. That is how crispy these babies are. You don't need the dip believe me, but it does add a different flavor profile in it. Damn it, I should have ordered rice with this.
We couldn't leave without have burgers. Even if the CALL THE NURSE was highly recommended by our friends, we went for something simple. The KANDI (265Php). Roasted Garlic Aioli, B&B Cheese sauce, onion confit, and SPICED CANDIED BACON.
As long as there is BACON, we would be a happy bunch. The meat patty is freshly made daily. No frozen stuff here. The cheese went well with the aioli. The buns are a perfect combination with the meat. Delicious burger this is.

BURGERS and BREWSKIES gives that hungout place vibe. Truthfully, the burgers are the main attraction but the appetizers and other dishes are also there to give you more variety. I love how the meals are quite affordable and that quality doesn't suffer. Yes having burgers everyday could be a bit unhealthy but I'm sure, BURGERS and BREWSKIES won't judge you and would even have open arms every time you visit. Deadly, delicious and playful. Remember to go for that BACON CHICHARON!!! No longer a B&B virgin, I am. Cheers.

DYCE N DYNE: Board Game Lovers' Delight

I dream of restaurants being able to carry themselves as proper hungout places. Not like other establishment that let's you eat for an hour and expect you to leave as soon as you're done.

Thankfully, I experienced the former in DYCE N DYNE.  Rather than the usual good food and grub that you would expect, DYCE N DYNE specializes in one other thing. They offer board games for you to play with. Not just board games but also cards and other interesting offline games. Yes, you can stay for as long as you want as long as you keep on playing.

A couple of weeks back, I was fortunate enough to be in the vicinity of Pasig Shaw. There, I saw it. DYCE N DYNE. "So this is what a board game restaurant looks like", I told myself. It was my first time going to a board game resto.
A big giant metallic squid structure greets you as you enter. The restaurant's mascot.
Different metallic sculptures on the wall to give you that artsy bad ass feel. Yes, board games does that to people.

Aside from the hundreds of games available to play with, they also have a second floor that can accommodate more diners and players. The also sell other games and toys for the big boys and girls on the second floor.  I for one got a badass Pokemon Tshirt. Yes, they had my size.
Did I mention that they serve your drinks on flask and beakers? Yes, geeky like that. They play with the drinks and let us enjoy them as they are. From a Milo Dino to something fruity and sweet. Perfect with any game.

Picking a game might be hard so I suggest playing with Cards Against Humanity to start your night. Quite easy and fun for groups. Don't worry though, they have game masters on board to teach you how to play a game if you don't know how.

One thing to note about DYCE n DYNE is that they take their FOOD SERIOUSLY. They may have goofy names but the dishes they serve out are perfect for game nights.

CHICKEN SKIN of AVALON (150Php). The skins are accompanied by home made potato chips and bbq sauce. I wouldn't mind having one with a bottle of beer.

Another tasty treat is the BORA BORA BACON TEMPURA (330Php). Deep fried tempura coated bacon served crispy. Each bite would make you ask for rice. Bits of nori on top adds to the flavor and having maple syrup for sauce is just genius.

While playing any game, I would suggest that you get their LEGENDARY GRILLED CHEESE (150Php). Toasted bread with 2 kinds of cheese. It has some slices of tomatoes just to add into the flavor. I like the simplicity of the flavor. Yummy!

If in case, you don't have a big appetite and are willing to share, the MUNCHKIN SLIDERS (250Php) is up your alley. Corned beef patties with hashbrown and egg. It's like breakfast in a bite.

Another bread dish that you may want to try is the CODENAMES PULLED BEEF SANDWICH. The beef shreds were a little sweet but the coleslaw balanced it out.

It may also come as a surprise that they serve rice dishes too. One of them, the MYSTERIUM CHICKEN FRIED STEAK is a top pick. Something new off the menu, this right here is perfect with rice. Although accompanied with mash potato, the steak coated with fried chicken coating is a joy to eat.

DYCE N DYNE, is a haven for everyone. Not just board game lovers but also foodies. Playing games is a nice way of being offline and connecting with friends and love ones. They let you relax and enjoy experiences and interactions. It's just an added bonus that DYCE N DYNE serve good grub. Will definitely return!!! Friday and Saturday night will never be the same.

OAKWOOD'S NOSTALGIA: INDONESIAN FOOD FEST

I was wondering one time and I asked myself, "What is Indonesian Cuisine?". I knew they were our neighbor geographically so I guess it was normal to take note that Filipino Food is somewhat the same with Indonesian Cuisine.

I never thought about it again until I was led to OAKWOOD'S NOSTALGIA: INDONESIAN FOOD FESTIVAL. Oakwood Hotel has a place in my heart since it was one of those few establishments that I know take cares of their patrons and their partners. Since this was going to be an event about food, surely, I will not miss it.
The INDONESIAN FOOD FESTIVAL will only run for a couple of weeks. FROM SEPTEMBER 8-18, 2015. They made sure that the food would be authentic as they invited chefs all the way from OAKWOOD PREMIER in JAKARTA.

Executive Chef DEDEN SUHERMAN and SOUS CHEF SULISTYO ANTONIUS made their way to the kitchens of NOSTALGIA to showcase their expertise when it comes to INDONESIAN FOOD.

For the salad section, you would notice that their offerings are quite or almost the same as with Filipino dishes.
The use of freshly cut tomatoes along with other veggies would make any healthy foodie jump with joy.
Different veggies along with Tofu partnered with a peanut based sauce.

The food is either a little sweet and a bit spicy compared to Filipino cuisine.
Peanuts seems to be an integral part of flavoring.

FOR STARTERS, I would have to say that NOSTALGIA was down right awesome. Why? Well they had CHICKEN SKIN in the fray! Who wouldn't want a crispy, salty and delicious deadly appetizer?
Alongside the chicken skin, they also had corn fritters. Perfect.

I definitely enjoyed their version of pancit or noodles. Not too salty but the use of soy to flavor it was light and I liked it.

They also had a grilling or cooking section that made shrimps, squid and fish to satisfy your seafood cravings.

Noticeable in the buffet is the BEEF RENDANG. I liked how it wasn't too spicy and the coconut milk definitely went well with the whole dish.

OF course they had the CHICKEN SATAY that had a hint of the peanut sauce. Very moist and tender.

But for me the best dish hands down is the KAMBING BAKAR SAMBAL KECAP or Roast lamb leg with Indonesian Spice and Sweet Soy Chili Sauce.
The LAMB was perfectly cooked and had a little smoky background. THE sauce used was definitely a little sweet but it made the lamb perfect.

They also had a plethora of dessert which would make any sugar lover enjoy.
I would have to suggest that you get these small round balls. Covered with coconut shavings, they have a little surprise inside.
THE MANGO STICKY RICE was also great. Definitely a must.

The FOOD served was simple and straight to the point. All the dishes that I would expect from an INDONESIAN BUFFET were served. I liked how they toned the food down a little so that it won't be too spicy. The flavors though were intact and I liked it. The fact that the INDONESIAN FOOD FESTIVAL is a weekday lunch buffet and costs only 999Php nett per person, makes it attractive to foodies around the metro. Quality food for sure.

Yes, they are both similar and different in a lot of sense.
