NONO'S: UP TOWN CENTER KATIPUNAN'S ALL DAY CAFE

Tired of the usual fast food, there's this saying that nothing beats home cooked meals. This is exactly what they have at NONO'S. Dishes that are from the heart and filled with familiar memories.
A quick snack or a long lunch, NONO'S at UP TOWN CENTER KATIPUNAN could be the place for you to relax and enjoy the day away. Located on the first level of UP TOWN CENTER KATIPUNAN, Nono's is from the same people behind CBTL. As such, you are assured of quality dishes and delicious drinks.
A post shared by Food In The Bag (@foodinthebag) on

For starters, one could have the SHRIMPS with CANDIED WALNUTS. Consider this as pica-pica. You have crispy fried wantons as base and you add as much shrimps and nuts as you want. Something new to their menu, the truffle cream pasta is another must try. Once served, you get to smell the truffle making you crave for more.
Two entrees that might be great for sharing would be the PINOY STYLE BEEF STEAK and the HOMESTYLE FRIED CHICKEN. The beef steak uses USDA and is very tender. Although a bit on the sweet side, this dish might be better off named as tapa. Usually, Pinoy styled beef steak are sour in nature because of the calamansi used. This isn't true here. The Fried Chicken though, is somewhat familiar. Almost similar to a local restaurant chain's flavoring and texture profile, this works well with the gravy and the honey on the side.
Nono's is a no frills all day cafe dining. One could relax and enjoy a bite of their freshly made cakes or pick a drink from their long list of drinks.

MAMA LOU'S at UP TOWN CENTER KATIPUNAN

Overwhelming is an understatement. At MAMA LOU'S, they want you fed right and fed good.
This restaurant started down south a few years ago and has beautifully blossomed into an award winning endeavor. Presently, they have one up north in UP TOWN CENTER KATIPUNAN.
One could start off with a couple of appetizers just to get the blood flowing. An order of poutine or mozzarella would be perfect for the kids and kids at heart. The potatoes were freshly cut in house while the cheese was definitely spot on.

The pasta selection at MAMA LOU'S is a mouth full. They have a lot to offer the dining public.
From traditional dishes like SPAGHETTI MEATBALLS and LASAGNA to something more different.

A couple of interesting pasta dishes would be the MAC and CHEESE and the VONGOLE OLIO.

The TRUFFLED MAC and CHEESE was creamy and very decadent. The VONGOLE OLIO is definitely a crowd favorite. Light and sweet. Sauteed clams with white wine makes up for the sauce and gives it a bit of flare.
When it comes to main dishes, two stood out.
The SALPICAO and the RIB EYE was excellent. They were properly cooked and were very tender. The salpicao had that right amount of garlic while the rib eye goes well with its mushroom sauce.
These two meat dishes goes perfectly well with the RISOTTO.
For pizza, the TABARNES was an easy favorite. The anchovies stood out and gave it a bit of saltiness. Delicious.
Named as simply the MAMA LOU'S SPECIAL, made use of mango, arugula, prosciutto, and balsamic cream. Sweet and sour working hand in hand.

Even if there were a couple of dishes that lacked a bit of seasoning, the extensive menu makes up for it. No wonder a lot of families and friends troop over to MAMA LOU'S. The price range is also affordable and quite reasonable.

IHOP: More than just Breakfast

Surprisingly, IHOP just became a little bit more than just breakfast. Having multiple store locations around the metro, IHOP created more dishes for lunch and dinner.
One could start off with some fresh fruit juices. These aren't your usual out of the can drinks. Rather, they are freshly squeezed and are extracted through the use of a juicer making sure that the nutrients aren't lost. Their best seller would be the RISE and SHINE. This has pineapple, ginger and carrots.
From the menu, the chicken cordon bleu was spot on. The crispy exteriors went extremely well with the moist and tender chicken roll. Another must try dish would be the BBQ LIEMPO. A Filipino favorite, IHOP'S version is heavily seasoned. Each bite would make you have a spoonful of rice.
The CHICKEN with POTATO HASH is a crowd favorite. The grilled chicken is topped with bacon and cheese making the diner a little bit indulgent. The hollandaise sauce works well with the overall flavor of this dish.
Just in case you want a filling quick snack, the BREAKFAST BURRITO would be your best bet. Being able to have all the goodies from breakfast, this burrito is heavy and delicious at the same time. It might be a little dry for some but if you're a breakfast person, you will love this for lunch and dinner as well.
Definitely a mad creation, the WAFFLE BURGER is just something out of a sci-fi food tv series. Imagine something sweet with something savory. Then add cheese, bacon and egg. This is something different that is definitely a must try.
Trying to offer more dishes for the public, IHOP now has more than just breakfast items. Worth another visit if you ask me.

LAZY BASTARD is now OPEN in UP TOWN CENTER KATIPUNAN

For a long time now, I have been hearing about this fabled hotdog and burger place along Jupiter street in Makati. Unfortunately, I never got to try it there because of the parking situation and the traffic it entails just to get there. THANKFULLY, LAZY BASTARD just opened a branch up north.
Located on the third floor of the expansion wing of UP TOWN CENTER KATIPUNAN, LAZY BASTARD opened its doors to the public just yesterday. Northerners need not go down to Makati to have a taste of their famous dogs and burgers.
For their first day of operations, they gave out BACON ROSES to their patrons. Lucky enough for me, I was able to horde and got around 5 of these babies.
Since LAZY BASTARD is just situated besides the cinemas, they also offer to deliver your food right to your seat. No need to wait and be late for that movie. I experienced this yesterday as I was able to watch in the brand new cinemas. I can't wait for the 4DX to open though.
After the movie, I went back and had a proper meal. I went for their FAMOUS HONEY PARMESAN DOG (200Php). The hotdog is deep fried and wrapped with bacon. The buns were soft and toasted inside. They were also generously lathered with honey. Hence, there was a slight sweetness to it. Having parmesan cheese made it a little salty and thus makes a great flavor profile. Another dog to try would be the Chili dog. For chili lovers, this dog would be perfect for you although it could get overwhelming.
Since a hotdog is never enough, I also got one of their burgers. The LIL BASTARD (120PHP). I was pleasantly surprised with the burger as the price point made it affordable but the quality and flavor was not sacrificed. The cheese, onions and pickles made it delicious. Since I love sour food, I definitely enjoyed the generous slices of pickles that they put in. The meat patty in itself is also delicious and flavorful. Well done LAZY BASTARD. WELL DONE!
I can definitely see myself going back for more. The menu is somewhat limited now as they just opened yesterday. They have the whole range of dogs to choose from and just a single burger. I hope they could roll out the different dishes that they have from their main branch soon.
I had an amazing time in LAZY BASTARD UP TOWN CENTER KATIPUNAN. The service was fast, friendly and efficient. The prices of the dishes were affordable and student friendly. I can't wait to go back.

SKULL & BONES: UP TOWN CENTER's Club House

When drinks and chilling is needed one place comes into mind. SKULL & BONES in UP Town Center is the perfect place to unwind and have a cold one.

Homey. That was my first impression of SKULL & BONES.

Aside from the comfy couches and laid back seats, they also have a secret room at the back.

It's no ordinary room, it's their DRINKING room. You could play different games in this place like: Beer Pong, Beer Bong, Flip Cup, and Battle Shots. There's no renting fee for it. Definitely extra service.

To start off the party, they have cool cocktails. One of them is the GUMMI BEAR. This vodka spiked drink tastes just like the the real deal. They also have non-alcoholic ones so no need to worry about drinking and driving.

Pica pica or finger foods are abundant. You could go with a pile of CURLY FRIES (110Php). Plain like this or with cheese toppings or with mushroom gravy cheese (220/250Php).

Another popular choice is the NACHOS. You could pick 3 versions. Pulled Pork (380Php), Pulled Chicken (380Php), or Vegetarian (320Php)
Snacks are reintroduced and reinvented here at SKULL & BONES to make them into full pledged meals. CHEF Cuit made it sure to titillate our taste buds. With a track record of Nolita, Borough, LES Bagels, and The Bowery in Bgc, Chef Cuit can definitely entertain us with his kind of comfort food.

Basically, the menu is divided into 3 main "snacks". BURRITOS, BURGERS and DOGS. They also have grub, salads and ramen just so that you have variety.

What makes their burritos different from the local fast food version, is that they are all freshly made. No artificial flavoring and none of that nasty after taste. From the MORNING AFTER (330Php) to the STEAK CHIMICHURRI (420Php), you could definitely feel the heaviness of each one. It's a complete meal in itself.

With vegetarians in mind, the POPEYE BURRITO (340Php) is offered. Made with brown rice, black beans, pico de gallo, sour cream, mozzarella, monterrey jack cheese. The greenish tone is because of the spinach tortilla wrapper that was used.

For sausage lovers, they offer DOGS of different kind. Beef Pork Frankfurter to Homemade Chicken Sausages and all beef dogs are used.

The Cubano Dog or PITBULL (300Php) is more of a renegade dog if you ask me. It has swiss cheese, smoked ham, chopped pickles and onions, sliced jalapenos, garlic lemon ailoi on a griddle pressed brioche bun. Lined with mustard, it gives the dog more flavor.

A thing of beauty is the SUPER MARIO (300Php). This baby right here can make you look for Luigi. Fried and breaded chicken sausage is used. Sauteed peppers and onions and extra virgin olive oil are evenly distributed on the dog. Mozzarella, parmesan cheese and tomato sauce is on top along with fresh parsley. Brioche bun is used.

Their burgers are a thing of beauty. I have not seen a list of creatively named burgers with different toppings to properly describe each and everyone.

A crowd favorite. The DIRTY SOUTH (280Php). Rice Krispies used as a batter for the fried chicken patty was genius. The Krispies made sure that it was crunchy and at the same time has a little sweet flavor with every bite.

Another burger that stands out would be the MACGRUBER-GER (320Php). An all beef patty, with sauteed mushrooms, and fried noodles on top. The addition of monterrey jack gives it a cheesy texture.

If you're looking for something more familiar, you could go for their GRILLED CHEESE BURGER (320Php). All beef patty with mozzarella and cheddar cheese. Just like how grilled cheese is made.

If you're into pasta or noodles, you could have a go at their DORM ROOM RAMEN or their classic mac and cheese.

The TRAILER PARK MAC & CHEESE (290Php) is just like the Kraft version. Adding crackers gives it a bite. The different cheese used could make you swoon in enjoyment if you're a cheese lover like me.

Their Ramen could be a choice between GINGERED PORK (200Php), SPICY BEEF (200Php) and MISO VEGGIE (150Php). These ramen like here have rich flavor even if NO MSG were used to make them. It's like having those instant ramen but more nutritious and delicious.

THE DESSERT served is a reminisce of old school glory days. Pop Tarts, Twinkies and creations like FLUFFERNUTTER (100Php) and FLUFFERNUTTELLER (140Php) can make you jump for joy. As classics are reinvented.
Think sweet and delicious. A dessert is made into something familiar yet completely different.

More than the place, it's the food and the drinks that makes hanging out with friends worth it. SKULL & BONES in UP TOWN CENTER by CHEF Cuit Kauffman is definitely the place to relax and enjoy good grub. Admittedly, it may be a little pricey with a meal going as high as 400 Php. I guess it's a price to pay seeing how you could relax and enjoy good food.
