WHISKY LIVE MANILA 2018. HERE WE GO AGAIN!

So it's been another year of ups and downs but there's something coming in a couple of weeks. ENTER WHISKY LIVE MANILA 2018
WHISKY LIVE MANILA 2018 would be on November 9 and 10, 2018 in Shangri-La BGC in Taguig. This event would once again showcase different whisky brands and other liquors that would make your week.
Aside from the usual suspects, we could also expect other old school drinks that our fathers enjoy.
Personally though, I can't wait to have another sip of the Solist from Kavalan. The flavor and the smoothness of it is just perfect.
"This year, Whisky Live Manila 2018 will once again open its doors to thousands who want to decipher the timeless allure of whisky on November 9 and 10, 2018 at the Shangri-La Hotel at the Fort in Bonifacio Global City. WHISKY LIVE MANILA 2017: THINGS TO WATCH OUT FOR ON DAY 2

If you find yourself free later tonight October 21, I suggest that you head on over to the 2nd day of the WHISKY LIVE MANILA 2017. Here, you get to experience, taste, and learn about the different whisky available in the market and more.
For the second straight year, WHISKY LIVE MANILA 2017 will be at SHANGRI-LA FORT. From October 20-21, 7pm to 12midnight, guests would be able to try out different alcoholic beverages. These are the different things I learned from going on the first day.
There are MASTERCLASS sessions that you could attend. Aside from the main big event, you could check out some of the classes they have instore for you. Even if you're a newbie or a long time fan of different alcoholic drinks, you get to experience something unique and albeit rare and expensive drinks. For the DALMORE MASTERCLASS, it was Adam Knox who gave a very insightful lesson about DALMORE. He went through a quick how to appreciate and the different history, notes, and flavors. One thing I enjoyed was being able to try out DALMORE'S 30 year old Sherry. Although not available in the market, this was a sweet wake up call of things to come.
After an hour in the masterclass, head on over to the huge function room that has all the booths and different events happening.
As you enter you are given chips. One white and one blue and a number of red chips. You use the blue for the best whisky you've tasted while the white one is for the best booth. The red chips are your tokens to avail of the different drinks that they have to offer.
Don't worry if you run out of red chips, head on over to the breathalyzer. If you get a good mark, they will give you more red chips. One tip though would be to blow hard and wait for the beep to end before stopping.

There are a number of Whisky available. Actually there are around 131 ++ variants of liquor that's there for you to partake. You could try out the usual and famous ones but there are some that are quite unique. I'm no expert but I did enjoy a number of them.
See the bottle on the left? That is the OCTAVE MORTLACH. It's something that has a great finish and not overly peaty.
Kavalan was also present. A Taiwanese brand that has won multiple awards, I suggest that you go and try out the SOLIST. At around Php 16,000 per bottle, it's awesome to spend your chips here.
Other than WHISKY, you could also find other alcohol variants in the hall.
The ROKU GIN is a Japanese Brand that goes well in a gin and tonic. Same goes with the UNGAVA, a Canadian Premium Gin.
Newcomers to the Philippine Market, KOVAL is a welcome treat. Something from Chicago, this has a great bourbon variant that you could taste the corn outright.
For something of a mix, the HEDONIST is a must. This COGNAC and GINGER liqueur has that very friendly vibe and flavor. This is a great choice for newbies such as myself as it was on the sweet side.
There were actually a lot of promotional giveaways as well. Some booths had discount coupons, whisky bottles, key chains, glasses and even this cute personalized leather holder.
Other booths had techy setups like this touchscreen table and even a dj booth setup.
Even if you're not a heavy whisky drinker, you'll still enjoy going to WHISKY LIVE MANILA 2017. Happening October 20-21, 2017 in Shangri-la Fort, this is one heck of an event. You could head on over to http://www.whiskylive.ph/ for tickets and more information.

P.S.
Please have dinner or a quick snack before heading over. Although there are food for sale at the site, I think it's better to head on over to your favorite restaurant for a light snack.
Remember it's important to coat your stomach with something oily.
Don't forget to be responsible. Do not drink and drive.

WHISKY LIVE MANILA 2017: 5 Things To Know Before Going!

Ever had that feeling of wanting to try out different things before going for the best one. Maybe you experienced not being able to decide what a particular dish from a restaurant you like just because there's something else in the same category. Well for Whisky Drinkers, they are going to get pretty lucky.
For the second year in a row, WHISKY LIVE would be making a splash within the Manila drinking scene. Here, guests would be able to sample a number of high-end alcoholic beverages.
WHISKY LOVERS rejoice!!!! WHISKY LIVE is coming back to town. Now on it's second year, WHISKY LIVE MANILA 2017 is better than before.
Organizers recently held a media of what to expect on OCTOBER 20-21 in SHANGRILA FORT. Here are some of the things to know before going:
1) Come Prepared. You'll be having a night to remember. Two nights, if you're brave. This year has a bigger venue. Meaning to say, there would be more booths to check out and more liquor to try out. Over 131 top-notch different types of whisky, scotch, bourbons, and blends from all over the world would be present for you to sample. Plus, some are even planning to sell bottles with a discount.
2) Sign up for Master Classes. Don't be intimidated. This would be workshops and talks about certain whiskies and other spirits that could teach you a thing or two. You might also be surprised as certain industry leaders are coming into town to talk about their brands.
3) Go with friends and leave with more friends. This is the time to make connections. You get to meet the people behind the brands. You get tips and more information about everything under the sun.
4) Come in early. You'll have a lot to cover. Scout the location first and make mental notes of the drinks that you may want to try out. Then go back for them. We as human beings could only take so much alcohol in a day. This would pretty much be one of those moments that you wished you could drink more but as always drink in moderation.
5) Get your tickets now at http://www.whiskylive.ph/ . Early birds get as much as 43% off. Not bad considering that a normal ticket is at Php 3,500.

CHECK OUT http://www.whiskylive.ph/ for more information. Remember don't drink and drive.

FOO'D by DAVIDE OLDANI: BGC'S AFFORDABLE DATE PLACE

A date that doesn't have to break the bank. At FOO'D by Chef Davide Oldani, guests are entitled to world class cuisine without having to pay a month's wage. Ambiance is very sophisticated yet relaxing on the eyes. It may seem formal but patrons can rest up and take their time.
Start off with some drinks and amuse-bouche. These can take a bit off the waiting game as the food here is cooked and prepared only when ordered. In that particular lunch, a bite sized hors d'oeuvres was served. It had a hint of truffle flavor and went well with the caviar. Their in house bread is also a different story as it has a crunch outside while the innards are soft like a pillow.
FOO'D has this concept to make guests pick the number of courses they wish to partake off. From there, they could upgrade different parts of the meal to their liking. For lunch, FOO'D started having 2 course meals to cater to the fast paced life that corporate workers have in the area. At Php 500 ++ per person, you can't beat that.
One could either pick an anti pasto or dessert to go with the main course. The CIPOLLA CARAMELLATA is a must as this is a signature dish of Chef Davide. A caramelized onion is prepared for 3 days. Dehyrdated, the whole onion undergoes a process to make it as such. Aged grana gelato is added on top of this tart like dish. Honestly, it seemed too straightforward to begin a meal with something sweet. It's border line dessert because of the flavor but the aged grana padano gave it a salty contrast.
In line with the 2 course lunch menu, the main dish would be the RISO CHICKEN with PRAWN. Spring Chicken is cooked with veal jus. Placed on top of risotto, it's a mix of rich and savory parts. The shrimp just adds more texture to it. From here, it gets a bit fun. One could upgrade and change the course with different items from the menu.
One maybe tempted to try the RISO COCHINILLO. Roast pork with porcini sauce on top of risotto. Here, we realize that the base is similar for all the main dishes. Risotto. Heavy and creamy, the risotto works well with anything. Making it a versatile and perfect partner for each choice.
The IBERICO PORK RIBS would be very interesting. With each bite, you realize how lucky you are. The right amount of seasoning and even the muscovado bread crumbs on top makes everything work. The vegetables also gave it something different. Also, since the meat stayed very close to the bones, it absorbed a ton of flavor making it delicious.
If you're going for something tender, the BEEF ALL'OLIO would be your bet. This one would make your mouth melt with delight. The meat is super tender. It's like eating cotton candy. Wagyu beef cheek is used together with bordelaise. Topped with trout caviar, it gets amazingly decadent.
The most expensive upgrade you could go for would be the RISO RIB CAP. A5 Wagyu is cooked quite similar to the beef cheek. Steak lovers would enjoy this.
For FOO'D dessert is an art. Each time it goes out of the kitchen, it must be a masterpiece. Something to that effect would be the very curious LEMON CURD. The merinque is extremely crunchy because of the dehydration technique used on it. Lettuce gelato is also on the sidee with cacao crumble and curry almonds. To eat this dish, one must get all the parts in one spoonful. Having just one part like the lettuce gelato can be a bit too much on your senses.
The DARK CHOCOLATE MOUSE is somewhat normal as you could get this particular texture and flavor in other restaurants. Having salt creates this contrasting flavor to take the umay or sated factor out. The CHEESECAKE though is another thing. Ricotta mouse, sable, strawberry and basil is mixed in this delicate product. The cheesecake itself is covered in a red gelatinous top. The flavors are very sublime yet not over the top. This is very very very good.
FOO'D is a high end restaurant that serves affordable degustation style dining. Granted that it can only take in 50 diners at a time, they have 2 seatings during dinner. At 500 Php for lunch and 800 Php for dinner, FOO'D makes it very accessible for anyone wanting to try it out.

The quality and choices of cuisine are aplenty in their HIGH STREET CAFE. More than just offering holiday themed drinks and cocktails, they have a gastronomic menu to entice buffet lovers and party goers. Perfect for everyone that fancy a bit of everything.

Seafood are freshly picked and are prepared in different manners. One could go for the decadent oysters and even some shrimp cocktail.

Starting off with some finger foods, one could pick up a wrap. Perfect while waiting for other people in your party to arrive. One could munch on these goodies without the guilt of getting full quickly.
A perfect example would be this brie filled bread wrap that's covered with mangoes. Sweet and sexy definitely a must try from their buffet.
Once everyone is present, the main courses are right there for the taking. More time to chat and eat since everything is prepared way in advance.
Aside from the usual bites, there are some Chinese, Western and even Filipino delicacies that are quite delicious. One could start off with some abalone. Cooked with a sweet touch, this one is perfect with steaming white rice. Furthermore, one could go for beef cheeks as well. These are tender and done in a delicious manner. Very savory and perfect with mashed potatoes.
Since it is the Holidays, they have a bit of crunchy surprises as well. Crispy lechon or roasted pig belly is prepared for everyone to try out. Accompanied by different sauces, you can mix and match for your taste buds.
Another addition to the menu would be the TURKEY. The meat is juicy and tender. It works with the different vegetables and sidings that you may want to try out.
Aside from the steaks, lamb, fish, and other grilled options, the HIGH STREET CAFE also offers some humongous grilled freshwater crayfish.

If there was one thing that you must try from the spread would be the LAKSA. Since the weather is a bit cooler now, this dish would be excellent. The soup is a little bit spicy but tolerable and the flavors are present.
Dessert is well represented in SHANGRI-LA FORT. They have countless cakes and even yule log that is deconstructed. Definitely a must get for that sweet tooth.
In case you find yourself in a bind, go look for CHEF JORIS RYCKEN or his staff. He can whip up a storm and you thank him for everything. Being able to pass on the stress to other people is an amazing way to spend the holidays. At SHANGRI-LA FORT, they can take care of you and your loved ones. No fuzz and no mess.
