BOROUGH in my Heart. Podium's 24/7 LATE NIGHT EXPERIENCE

BOROUGH has been my go to "always open restaurant" in the metro. They offer comfort food and a sense of privacy when it comes to having an awesome meal in the middle of the night

A million times and a million times more. These has been my cry every time I encounter great food. That's why I always go here during my ups and my down.

FRIES in a BASKET (150Php) - A whole basket of fries. Served with Borough's Special Odessa Sauce
One dip and you will love it. I found myself not stopping. Not too oily but definitely OMG!

GRILLED CHEESE and TOMATO SOUP (280Php) - Grilled cheese in homemade brioche bread. Tomato Soup

Over and over again. Cheesy cheese in between properly toasted bread. Effective in getting the tomato soup. Think of it as your sponge! YUMMY!

FRIED CHICKEN and WAFFLES (290Php) - Quarter chicken cured in Sweet tea. Paired with pumpkin waffle. Served with Maple Syrup Gravy and roasted pecan butter.

A little pricey but the flavors make up for it. The waffle crisp outside makes it a delight. The chicken parts were a bit small so it maybe a hit or miss as you do pay a hefty sum for it.

CHEESE-INJECTED PORTOBELLO PITA POCKET (340Php) -  Portobello Mushroom oozing with Monterey Jack in a Pita Pocket. Served with Chips.
Soft pita bread. The cheesy goodness gushes out of the mushroom. Holy cow. Remembering it makes me salivates.
See the cheese!!! That is how good it is!
Yes, this has been my 4th or 5th post that has Borough all over it. But, I just can't help and write up about something that I enjoy. Even if it is a little pricey, for something like this awesome comfort place, I would definitely go back for more.....Now I can't wait to visit its brother "THE BOWERY" in BGC.

IPPUDO in SM MEGAMALL: TIME TO SLURP! ZUZUTTO!

A wave of Ramen Stores have been mushrooming all around the metro for the past year or so and I guess IPPUDO coming was just a matter of time. The YABU group saw it fit to enter a partnership with IPPUDO to bring them here. I for one definitely love the RAMEN scene in the metro as more and more choices are being available for anyone in love with a good bowl of Ramen.
Remember my RAMEN NAGI aka BUTAO RAMEN experience? (CLICK HERE)
Recently opened, IPPUDO has been making waves in the social media for its awesome flavors and also because of its long lines.
The noodles are made from scratch with imported flour from overseas so you could be sure that they serve it fresh and steamy.

Before going to the main event, they have some appetizers to start things off.

DASHIMAKI TAMAGO with MENTAIKO MAYO (150Php) - These egg munchies are on the sweet side. Althought the Mayo dip is welcomed, I couldn't taste the cod roe.
Fluffy Japanese Omelette roll served with mentaiko (spicy cod roe) mayonnaise dip.

GOMA Q (140Php) - Incredible. Crunchy cucumber with spices. This is for the veggie and non-veggie lover. It's like pop-tarts. You can't stop putting it in your mouth.

Sliced Japanese cucumber with sesame dressing.

IPPUDO HAKATA-SYLE GYOZA (195Php). This has got to be my favorite with the side dishes. Flavorful and properly done. It has a bit of a crunch because of the fried wrapper. Perfect combination with your ramen of choice. GET THIS!
Original pan-fried Dumplings

CURRY CHEESE HARUMAKI (190Php) Not really for me. The name says it all, its cheese with curry flavor.
Deep Fried sping roll stuffed with curry, minced pork and cheese.

IPPUDO TEPPAN TONKOTSU SPICY RICE with NIKUMISO (290Php) - incredible. It wasn't too spicy but its basically your mixed rice on a sizzling plate. As SO would say, this could stand on its own "rice palang ulam na!!"

Now its time for the BIG SHOW.

When ordering these babies, go for the SPECIAL!!! They have everything. The Chashu and the soft boiled egg! You are eating here for the experience so get the whole she-bang!

Let's start from the mild going to the awesome!! But let me just say, the eggs were properly cooked! and the freaking pork belly were soft, tender, and melts in your mouth. and just like that I am sooo craving some ramen.

SHIROMARU MOTOAJI (375/405/470/480Php)
This is the calm before the storm. Light, garlicky and everyone would accept this. This is a safe choice for a not so spicy ramen eater.

Original tonkotsu broth served with ultra-thin noodles, pork loin, bean sprouts, kikurage, and spring onions. Classic Hakata-style ramen.

AKAMARU SHINAJI (390/420/460/490 Php) - This is for the weekend warrior. Not too spicy but it has a slow kick creeping in. Flavorful and incredible.
Tonkotsu broth with special blended miso paste and fragrant garlic oil. Thin noodles, pork belly, kikurage and spring onions.

KARAKA-MEN (390/420/460/490 Php) This is the favorite! Awesome. The Spices integrated with the broth perfectly. For the pleasure seeker and not so afraid eater, this would give you a jolt of shock and would delight your senses. If you must order just one, go for this! Be warned though its a little spicy but your tummy would get their just reward! OISHI!
Served with thin wavy noodles, pork belly, spring onions. Special spicy minced meat, miso paste and garlic oil would add a kick to the senses!!
Don't worry! If you ran out of noodles, you could order some more as long as you have broth left!

Even if they have these condiments of pepper, sesame seeds and garlic , believe me when I say, you won't be needing them.

Another lovely touch of IPPUDO is that they have utensils and table wares for the kids and kids at heart.
So CUTE!!!!

IPPUDO definitely caters to the Ramen lover. Although you might say that 3 types of ramen is limiting, you have to give them props for having a bunch of side dishes and rice meals to compliment the experience. I would have to say 600-700 Php per person would do the trick. Please be reminded that since there are long lines, be there on off-peak hours. Either really early like 10:30am or somewhere around 4:30pm. SLURP it out!!! ZUZUTTO!

THE WHOLESOME TABLE: Playing with My Taste Buds.

Sporting a countryside feel, THE WHOLESOME TABLE is not just an upgrade of Aria. It is an organic transformation that levels the playing field.

Most would say that "farm to table and be organic" would be the in-thing to go now a days. THE WHOLESOME TABLE makes good use of this idea and lets the diners experience this healthy concept.

The common notion would be that if it was organic then the taste would suffer. Although I have been hearing some mixed reviews about this restaurant, I think we were lucky that we gave it a shot. SO loved the food even though she didn't want to eat "healthy". She was on the fence with regards to eating healthy because we just had our GREEN PASTURES date (click here).  even if I loved the place. Too bad for her, I had the umbrella. I gave her a push led her to the right direction. Since, it was raining, she had no choice. You would be happy to know that she thanked me afterwards. (Insert I told you so look here. LOL!)

It was a Wednesday afternoon, no sleep yet and still up for a little RNR with SO.
She had no work while I on the other hand have. Came from a Ramen Sluprylicious Event and went straight to BGC. Dizzy that I might be, the place gives off a relaxing vibe.
One would give props to the THE WHOLESOME TABLE team for having the guts to put a tree inside the restaurant but even more that they have an awesome beverage bar. This is where the magic happens. They make your organic smoothies, juices and everyone's favorite, Coffee.
BE WORTHY (350Php) -Banana, almond butter, hemp, vanilla, cacao, maca, sole, honey, chia seeds, almond milk
BE FUELED (290Php) - Banana, raw cashews, dates, cacao nibs, coffee beans, vanilla.

Believe it or not, SO got fooled, she believed she ordered the one with mango, while I JEDI mind tricked her into not doing that. Anyway, she got my BE WORTHY and left the BE FUELED with me. She said it tasted more mangoeir! LOL! Difference between the two ? The BE FUELED had a more distinct coffee taste. Generally, they both taste somewhat like a banana chocolate shake. YUMMY!
The complimentary bread rolls were accompanied by herbed butter. I must say, the butter didn't taste like one. It didn't taste like anything at all. Near flavorless, yet it did give the mouth feel. The rolls did give a bite so not airy at all.
The WHOLESOME SALAD (350Php) - refreshing house salad with sweet grape tomatoes, Haas avocado, and onions and tossed in a sherry vinegar dressing with honey and extra virgin olive oil.
I got to agree with the word refreshing. The greens were crunchy and fresh. The vinegar dressing was light and not too heavy.

She wanted soup because it was raining, so she got the HEARTY TOMATO SOUP. (160Php)
Not too thick and creamy, this dish warms up the heart and the tummy.
Organic grape tomatoes sauteed in aromatic onions, garlic, basil and a rich vegetable broth and topped with natural cream.

To satisfy my cheese addiction, I got the BURRATA (270Php).
Just the right amount of saltiness and yet oh so creamy. A little amount would go a long way.
We finished the bread and had the remaining half mixed in with the soup. Creamier!!!
Topped with grape tomatoes, fresh basil and drizzled with balsamic reduction. Served with Sour dough toasts.
The ORGANIC MUSHROOM FRITTERS (320Php).
Amazing stuff! The sausage breading wasn't overwhelming. It blended well with the cheese and the mushroom.
Mozzarella-stuffed button mushrooms wrapped in homemade Italian sausage, breaded and crisp-fried and served with a fresh cherry tomato passato

Since she couldn't eat without RICE, she just had to have some meat to munch on.
PORK CHOPS (550Php)
Thick slices. Not over cooked. Juicy. Potatoes were a perfect match.
(in her case she still ordered brown rice.)
Thick slices of Pork Chopes, grilled to perfection and served with roasted potatoes.

Truthfully, one would say that the dishes and the drinks are pricey.
I believe you get what you pay for. The food is healthy and filling. I didn't go out bloated but I had a sense of enjoyment. The drinks were made from scratch and definitely gives you that organic energy boost. Budget around 700 Php per person. In our case, I think we ate for a group of 4 so, you know what happened. She ate "everything" and brought home the FOODINTHEBAG.  LOL!

QUICK BITES: GREEN PASTURES' FAUX RICE!!!

Once the new kid on the block, GREEN PASTURES has become the baseline and pioneer for a great farm to table restaurant concept.
Not only do they serve fresh and top quality dishes, they make sure that it is pretty healthy to munch on.

Even their drinks are solid. The HIBISCUS ICED TEA breaks the barrier. Not too sweet and refreshing.
If iced tea aren't your thing, go for the elixirs. I got the "TO DETOXIFY" with Chia Seeds.
Pineapple, green apple, ginger mint. Generally on the Pineapple side. The Chia seeds make them go pop!

Of course, when you go to GREEN PASTURES, don't miss on their home made cheese!
The STRACCIATELLA is a welcome treat for my tummy! Buffalo milk pulled fresh daily with EVOO and arugula.
One bite and the term Diet leaves your vocabulary forever. (well until you finish the dish... of course.)

Something delicious yet healthy would be their YANG CHOW FRIED CAULIFLOWER RICE.
ZERO carbs and Gluten Free. 8 hour roast pork, river shrimp, 142 degree egg, scallion, lettuce, green peas, and carrots. One would definitely think that for a rice lover this wouldn't go unnoticed. Yet, for my so, she loves it so much she didn't know it wasn't rice. LOL!.

Delicious and Healthy.. now when would they come up with something good to eat that could actually decrease your weight. LOL!

LATE NIGHTS IN CEBU: MAYA and MUSIC ONE KTV

Late nights in Cebu could be a blur. Specially for me, as i only visited the place for a few days. Thankfully, I have some friends there to guide me.
A drink is all I could ask for. MAYA, known for its "Mexican Vibe", seemed like a good place to start.
With a bar that caters to mostly foreign guests, you could still be at east knowing that the prices here are quite reasonable compared to METRO MANILA STANDARDS. A drink would cost around 200 bucks. Pretty cheap thinking that some bars bill around 300-400 for a premium glass.
The bar could be a little busy so its wise to head on up to the couch section and do some people watching.

I love their Mojito and their Amaretto Sour. Base alcohol used are top notched that you could taste the difference.
One mustn't miss checking out their MAYA NACHOS. Masa chips covered in cheese, salsa roja, sour cream & pickled jalapenos. Add some chili con carne while you are at it. Huge servings!!!

After a night of drinking and chilling, I still didn't want to go home. Thankfully there are 24/7 places where one could hungout. One such place is MUSIC ONE KTV.
Quite different from the KTV's we have in the metro. This place caters not only to loud singers but also to dvd marathons, console gaming and poker nights.
Slick and posh setting. I like
There are individual rooms to rent and you could pretty much be at ease because they got food  and drinks for those kungfu (kungfumulutan) and for those nightcaps.
Aside from all the places I have been to, it was a pleasure and an awesome experience to at least test the late nights in Cebu with great friends. I guess its all with the company. Awesome.
