THE GRID FOOD MARKET. ROCKWELL'S FOOD HALL

The most common question that I get whenever I'm with someone would be "where will we eat?". It's the go to line for any foodie in the metro. Saan Masarap Kumain? It's just one of those things that could be easily answered yet it's difficult. You have to take note of the people you're with. Their personal preference and even your budget. Enter food halls. One of them in particular would be THE GRID FOOD MARKET. Located in Rockwell, Powerplant, this gorgeous food hall was well curated. Different stalls to cater to your wants and needs. They have everything for everyone. From booze to juice, from snacks to meals, from noodles to tapas, and even sweets to more sweets.
As you enter the GRID, on your left side, this wine selection would greet you. Aside from all sorts of bottled alcohol, they also have craft beer and even slices of premium ham. You may partner them with excellent cheese.

Aside from this, head on over to the middle of the GRID. This stall number 12 serves coffee and other cocktail concoctions. You got to check out their drink list.
Rambla's would be another sought after stall. A well established restaurant chain, this one serves it's best and brightest.
Aside from chorizo, they also have other pica-pica. Their pintxos and tapas like this croquetas is filled with oozy goodness.
This calamares' squid is cooked to perfection. The meat is not soggy nor too hard. The batter is perfect with the garlic aioli.
Another must visit would be Gochu-gang. They serve this amazing noodle dish. It's called FIRE NOODLES. You got to have a good sense of your taste bud. You could order based on your spicy preference. To be honest, I can't wait to try their other Korean dishes.
You should not miss the NASI LEMAK. You could actually choose between the deep fried crunchy chicken or the grilled salmon. The salmon is glazed with a tangy yet sweet sauce. Partnered all the stuffings of a traditional nasi lemak, you can't go wrong with this one.
For desserts, one of the stalls you could head on over to would be the WORKSHOP.
Aside from their 17 layered cakes, their brownies and small bites work well. Partnered with coffee, juices, or cocktails from EDSA, you will have a heck of a time here.

So rather than blame yourself if your friends and family don't like your choice of restaurant, you could head on over here. More choices for everyone.

ARUGA CAFE BY MESCLUN: Your Quiet Spot in Rockwell

Rockwell seems to be a bit crowded nowadays when it comes to dining. It tends to be difficult to look for a spot that you could take your time and enjoy your meal. At ARUGA CAFE BY MESCLUN, you could stay away from the crowd and still feel at ease with your companions while having a hearty breakfast, lunch, snack or dinner.
Located on the ground floor of ARUGA BY ROCKWELL and just across Rockwell Mall, this small cafe-ish like restaurant has the perfect amenities you and your friends might want. Good food, relaxed ambiance, and a small private room perfect for your needs.
When visiting for a snack, you and friends would definitely enjoy the MUSHROOM and SPINACH EMPANADITAS. These babies are filled with a mushroom and spinach concoction and a hint of truffle and cream. Each piece would stimulate your taste buds to ordering more.
Another must try small dish would be the BUFFALO BALLS. Avoiding all the fuss of removing the bones, this dish would be just right for getting all the good stuff without the mess. The flavors are all present and it goes well with the blue cheese sauce.
IF something light and healthy is desired, the GOAT CHEESE SALAD might help you. Arugula would be the base alongside the walnuts and cherry tomatoes. A basil vinaigrette is used to put everything together.
Afternoon snacks are just as important as everything else. At ARUGA CAFE BY MESCLUN, they can offer a variety of flatbreads and sandwiches as well.
A mix of sweet and salty, the SHRIMPS and ANCHOVIES flatbread would be best for sharing. The CLUB HOUSE though is another dish for someone with a big appetite.
Pasta wise, you can't go wrong with the black spaghettini. With squid ink being the main ingredient, you get to taste the sea with each bite. Just don't forget to wipe your lips after.

But if a whole meal is a must, the FRENCH ONION SOUP with be the soup to go to first. Caramelized onions and melted cheese layer on top, you get a gooey and sweet flavor with every mouthful.
Two highly recommended main dish would be the GUAVA PORK ADOBO and the CHICKEN TIKKA. A favorite among guests, the use of the guava on the adobo gave it a spark. The flavor stood out, though, I would have wanted the meat to be more tender. On the other hand, I have no qualms with the CHICKEN TIKKA. The chicken meat has absorbed all the right seasoning. Partnered with the fresh yogurt and papadum, it's like having Indian flavors play in the mouth.
If you're into something heavy, the steak would be a wise choice. Cooked to your preference, you have a pinkish center. Accompanied by a mushy mashed potato, this meat just makes everything work.
Originally located in LINDEN SUITES, MESCLUN is now handling ARUGA CAFE. Old and new dishes have been placed into the menu to entice patrons to come on over and have fun.

On a fine day, GLOBE TELECOM has seen it fit to launch their modified GLOBE PLATINUM and its newest partnership with CHEF JP ANGLO. For this instance, the launch was held in his restaurant, KAFE BATWAN. Located in the vicinity of
Rockwell in Makati, Kafe Batwan offers Negranese dishes on a different level.
It is because of his level of awesomeness that GLOBE TELECOM chose him as the newest brand ambassador of GLOBE PLATINUM. GLOBE PLATINUM has rebooted itself to a whole new level. They primarily upped the experience. With a focus on guiding and helping their customers achieve their goals and dreams, GLOBE realized the importance of having a connectivity between them and their clients as such an upgrade on GLOBE PLATINUM services.  Here we could see the head honchos of Globe with Chef Jayps.
--> (L-R) Globe SVP for Consumer Mobile Marketing Issa Cabreira, Globe Platinum Brand Director Kaisie del Carmen, Globe Senior Advisor for Consumer Business Dan Horan, Globe Platinum ambassador Chef JP Anglo, Globe President and CEO Ernest Cu, and Globe Platinum Customer Marketing Director Jenn Mallabo
After a short talk about the ins and outs of the new GLOBE PLATINUM EXPERIENCE, Chef Jayps saw it fit to serve us with his amazing dishes.
A quick look would reveal a menu that is intriguing and innovative.
For starters, we had some eggplant dip. The addition of chicharon or pork cracklings on top is just genius. I couldn't stop myself from getting a piece after another.
Next up was the MOLO POT STICKERS. Basically dumplings with a burnt edge served in soup.
Now I don't really like eating salads or veggies but the SPINACH with MANGO TUYO DRESSING and CRISPY CRABLETS was pretty good. The tuyo flavor wasn't that evident. It was only a hint. The dressing had rough texture but it worked well with the greens and the cheese.
A crowd favorite was the MUSHROOM and TINOLA SOUP. Who would have thought that mushroom and tinola works well together. The use of clams gave it a seafood feel while the mushroom blended well with the tinola flavor. Loved this.
For rice, we were given a choice between STEAMED RED RICE for the healthy ones or the GARLIC COCONUT RICE. I went for the latter. The coconut flavor was evident and went well with all the dishes served. Another rice flavor that I would love to have over and over again.

A vegetable dish was then served. It was on the crunchy side. Needless to say, I skipped this one and only tasted the garlicky sauce along with the crispy dilis.
The GRILLED SHRIMP in TALANGKA GATA was deadly. Huge shrimp pieces were served in coconut sauce.
The Talangka or crab fat was served on the side. I'll be honest, I placed a spoonful of it in my rice and it was pure bliss I tell you. Deadly yes. But delicious!
A familiar dish was the LECHON KAWALI. This was served with sinamak or a type of vinegar and a chocolate sauce. I know it sounded weird but it actually works well with the two sauces. Put a dab of chocolate on top of the plump slice of meat and douse it with a splash of vinegar. Amazing twist of flavor. Salty, sweet, and sour. Delicious stuff.
What is Filipino Food without KARE KARE? The NOSE TO TAIL KARE KARE was served with GINAMOS on top and the peanut sauce on the side. Ginamos is a type of fish paste from the Visayas region. Moving on, the different types of meat had a clean taste. They were tender and pretty good.
After being served amazing dishes, dessert were placed on the table. None stop food action right here. The sizzling budbud is somewhat similar to puto bungbong. The addition of pinipig on top gave it a crunchy texture to the other wise sticky dish. Ube butter was used and coco pandan coffee cream for the sizzling sauce.
TURON with CHOCNUT sauce was served next. All good. The chocnut flavor was pretty evident.
The TRADITIONAL BIBINGKA was spot on. Well cooked and simple. The fluffiness was there and the flavor was direct to the point. This was pure love.

GLOBE TELECOM partnered with CHEF JAYPS to offer an amazing mobile experience through GLOBE PLATINUM. Chef Jayps is definitely the guy to go to in terms of amazing Negranese Dishes and innovative Filipino Food. Congrats Chef on being the newest Globe Platinum Ambassador.

Kafe Batwan is the foodie place to go to when innovative Filipino and Negranese dishes are craved for. Dishes are priced around 200-550Php. Expect to budget around 400Php per person. Cheers.

Interesting Food Find in BEST FOOD FORWARD 2014: PHOTO ESSAY

Left and right! It was pandemonium! Drinks here, sandwiches there, rice meal somewhere at the back and a lot of dessert stalls. The mood was festive!
On a 2nd straight weekend, the Rockwell Tent was able to host another awesome Food Bazaar. The BEST FOOD FORWARD 2014.
The place was able to showcase a lot of food and drink vendors that were trying the food scene out.

Along with friends and SO, I was able to visit the place on 2 straight days.
Of course, one of the main reason why we went was to get some cheese cake loving! INDULGENCE BY IRENE is the way to go!
SO just had to have a picture taken with them as she is a fan just like I am! Sir Richard and Ma'am Irene! Thank you so much!
Sharing a booth with them was NIKKO's BAKING STUDIO.
She sold these amazing stuff that SO got some empanada for her to take home.

I actually saw some familiar stalls that were interesting.

CHEF ANNA was definitely hands on. Her PINK WASABI was right at the entrance.

I got a few of those sugar free dark chocolate flavored goodies and a few kashimaki's as well.

They look as if they were Japanese Maki but in reality, they are small bite sized cakes that are infused with different flavors like vodka and tea.
Chef was gracious enough and gave me a copy of the menu so that I would know what I would be ordering next time around! Thank you chef!
Ever Present was and is one of my ever so favorite tapa's in the whole wide world!
 JAM ANGUS TAPA!
They sold some rice meals and also their frozen packs! Along with them was awesome Longanisa from Cebu! CHORIZO DE CEBU PH! My friend and SO got to try them and they both agreed. MORE RICE PLEASE!
A favorite among the sandwich lovers was the
CUBANO
Prepared by BIG DOG's KITCHEN, these are sandwich for the meat lover!
Made with roast pork, ham, cheese, pickles and a smear of mustard, you definitely can't stop with one bite!
Right beside it was THE BREADERY! They sell interesting loaves and different kind of bread that I can foresee myself going over and hoarding some of them with a cup of coffee in hand! The OLIVE CHEESE is a personal favorite, along with the Truffle Bun. The truffle bun was deadly as it also had cream cheese inside! But the best seller was the Tea infused loaf! That was one of the best food find there. Flavorful and aromatic. Sulit for a something less than 200 Php that it was wiped out early in the afternoon. They would open up a place along Emerald Ave in Ortigas.

The BROWN BAKER had these packed chocolate goodies. One was ferrero flavored, another dark chocolate and one tea infused. Incredible!
Crunchy belly chicharon like munchies were right beside brown baker. Need more rice and its a steal!
Of course Madam liked it. =)

If you are into incredible dessert, the CRACK PIES would definitely lure you in.
Sweet yet incredibly sticky, these are cake like stuff that even SIR RICHIE of the PICKIEST EATER would be proud off. IT is definitely addictive but you need to slow down because its a SUGAR HIGH! Damn it!

Another dessert find was VIOLA!
They make these do it yourself cake in a jar. Interesting enough, they worked with a french chef to perfect their product. Add water, microwave and you are good to go! Instant Dessert!

BURGER & BREWSKIES was also present. Aside from their deadly burgers, I liked their grilled corn!
Grilled for a few minutes and mixed with cheese and a bunch of spices, it definitely makes you go yum!
Hands down, another favorite of foodies would be the  the CRUNCHY CRAB.

They sell this amazing SOFT SHELL CRAB BURGERS. I liked it so much that I got it on both days.

They got a stall over at Greenfield along Shaw during their Saturday Market.

All of these made me happy but being able to enjoy it with fellow foodies, friends and SO made it memorable. Cheers guys!

All for a good cause, BEST FOOD FORWARD was able to deliver and showcase up and coming food finds in the metro. After all the sights and sounds, it was a nice feeling to know that you helped while having fun with friends and having a good time. The proceeds of this food bazaar went on over to charity.
