The first meal that I could remember I had was something from a Filipino long line of historical dishes. Different mashed plates for me as a baby but with distinct Filipino Flavors like nilaga or even sinigang dishes. Fast forward to the present and I am proud of my heritage and what Filipino Food has achieved in recent years. The adaptability and the melting pot of dishes in the Philippines made it a nice place to mix the different flavors and create our own food identity. And yet, we as Filipinos could call these dishes our own.
From May 19 to 29, 2016, Corniche in DIAMOND HOTEL MANILA is offering CULINARIA FILIPINA. A Filipino themed buffet at very delicious levels. Chefs Myrna Segismundo and Jill Sandique head up the buffet and created dishes for the foodies.
When one talks about Filipino food, one can't skip the term adobo. The ADOBO pasta has a distinct adobo flavor. I like how it is a bit on the dry side as the noodles are perfectly cooked and has absorbed the flavors.
Another Adobo flavored dish, is the ADOBO PIZZA.
The cheesy top works well with the bits of adobo scattered all over the pizza.
One classic dish that was also served was the KALDERETA. The meat was tender and the flavor spot on. It reminded me of my childhood.
That night, the main dish that I truly enjoyed was the PRIME ROAST BEEF TAGALOG. TENDER and juicy beef goodness, it has a distinct salty taste one would compare with another Filipino favorite.
Aside from the huge number of Filipino dishes, the buffet also offers a lot of international cuisine.
From Indian, to Chinese, a pasta station, sushi and sashimi and even Japanese.
Being able to showcase the different flavors the FILIPINO cuisine has, DIAMOND HOTEL'S CORNICHE is the perfect place to visit. Tip: For dessert get the Tableya Cake and the Mango Crepe Casserole. Cheers.
