The British Invasion: LET IT BE GREAT at SHANGRI-LA MAKATI

This coming May 23-27, 2016, MAKATI SHANGRI-LA would play host to a BRITISH INVASION. Dubbed as "LET IT BE GREAT", the week long event is an experience of BRITISH CULTURE. From fashion, cuisine and innovation in the heart of Makati.

On a quiet afternoon, a preview was shown to select members of the media.
Right from the get go, a quartet played different BEATLES SONGS to the delight of those present. On May 26, the Manila Symphony Orchestra will be presenting a concert highlighting the different legendary songs of the Beatles.
Diners would be welcomed to the Makati Shangri-la through a Grand High Tea. From May 23-27 at 3pm onwards at the lobby lounge, Twinnings Tea Ambassador Charles Smith would guide tea lovers to the flavors of tea and the right pairings for such.
One must remember to try the scones. These beauties are definitely a must eat! Partnered with different jams, these are perfect with any tea combination.
More than just scones, there are a lot finger foods to try too.
For the serious drinker, DALMORE is also present. This whiskey is definitely smooth and one of a kind.
It could also be used to make excellent cocktails.

IF you're a foodie, don't miss a chance of having DALMORE paired with delicious dishes. From May 23-27, 6pm onwards at SAGE BESPOKE GRILL, a 6 course meal prepared by Michellin Star Chef Daniel Galmiche would be partnered with Dalmore creations. Exquisite.

Scallop with blood sausage.
If you aren't into whiskey, you might love to do BRITISH PUB NIGHTS. At the SAGE BAR, gin cocktails are served with a buffet of British Cuisine.

THE WHOLE BRITISH event would run from MAY 23-27, 2016 at the SHANGRI-LA HOTEL MAKATI. #LetItBeGreat

SHANGRI-LA MAKATI: ESPERIENZA ITALIANA

As usual, it was traffic. The usual 30 minutes of travel via private vehicle now takes around more than an hour or two. I figured that it would be better for me to relax and just stay put first than get stressed from driving. As I found myself in Makati, I didn't know that I could relax and have a breather during the peak hours at a bar in one of the most luxurious hotels in the city.
The MAKATI SHANGRI-LA's SAGE.
One of my weakness is ITALIAN CUISINE. I can never say no to quality ITALIAN FOOD. I can brave the traffic and the horrible parking for excellent food. What a day it was for me as it was when SHANGRI-LA MAKATI launched ESPERIENZA ITALIANA or "Experience Italy".
This was their way of bringing ITALY to the METRO.
We got to experience an ITALIAN APERITIVO at SAGE. This is like Italians pre-dinner. A few cocktails and some finger food if you will before the main dinner. Honestly though, the food was more than enough to make me full.

Their spread is like no other though.
BREAD topped with different toppings. From salmon, to olives to cheese.
Mini-pizzas for the win. A margarita flavored to my choice of margarita.
Aside from that, they also had some risotto balls.
Pasta is an integral part of ITALIAN CUISINE. As such, they had prepared a station that cooked pasta to your preference. This one is PENNE with Mozzarella, Tomatoes and Basil. A little heavy on the tomato flavor.
A crowd favorite would be the RISOTTO ACQUERELLO. It had saffron, green asparagus and Italian Sausage.
The spread also had a "carving station". This time around, they had the cured prosciutto. Salty ham that is amazing and perfect with any type of bread. Delicious.
More so if you get the right type of cheese combination that came with it.
One thing I liked about this ITALIAN APERITIVO is that you could get perfect cocktails.
I think I was a bit tipsy already as I didn't know which one is which.
You actually have a choice of what to do with your drinks. From the base of the SPRITZ to the white wine or prosecco and even whatever additional things you may want to add.
This ITALIAN APERITIVO would run on OCTOBER 19, 21, and 23 from 6 to 10pm. It is priced at 1,500++ Php. This includes the antipasto buffet and selected drink.
I must say, you must not miss this if you love great food and perfect drinks to go along with it. Did I mention that in SAGE, there's an amazing looking bar and a great band that does incredible hits.

Aside from this, MAKATI SHANGRI-LA has a lot of activites set from OCTOBER 19-23. They invited MICHELIN-STARRED CHEF ROCCO IANNONE. He will be serving an incredible menu partnered with certain wine. This would be on OCTOBER 20-23 from 6 to 10:30pm. Tickets are at 5,500 or 4,500 for 4 or 5 courses respectively.

If you are a music lover, they invited the 30-piece MANILA SYMPHONY along with three tenors, and a soprano. A pre-show aperitif would also be served at the main lobby at 6:30pm. This would be on OCTOBER 22 at 7:30pm priced at Php1,850.

MAKATI SHANGRI-LA's CIRCLE: Butcher's Market Experience.

One thing I hate about buffets is that they always serve the same old thing over and over again. If I'm a foodie, I won't enjoy something without variety. It is important for restaurants to serve a variety of dishes to allow its visitors to enjoy as much as they can. I think MAKATI SHANGRI-LA is working towards fixing that problem.
One of the most important aspect of eating is enjoying it. MAKATI SHANGRI-LA's CIRCLES has been at the forefront of this battle. Rather than serving the same old food over and over again, they made something  different. A themed dinner buffet everyday of the week. What started just this September, they hope to push the run till the end of the year. To give their dinners something to look forward to every single night.
I've been to MAKATI SHANGRI-LA's CIRCLES a number of times already. Almost if not always with the family. I tend to look for something drool worthy every time I visit the place. Thankfully, I went on a TUESDAY night this time around for their "BUTCHER'S MARKET". From the word itself, you would be glad to know that CIRCLES buffet spread would be focusing on ALL MEAT entrees. They will of course still serve different parts of a meal, its just that MEAT would be their focus for the night.

Aside from the mini-seafood bar serving oysters, shrimps and clams, they have a long table housing different appetizers, salads, and starters to begin the night.
Different cheeses to enjoy, along with a plethora of bread. Of course, they have different dips as well.
You know me, I started with some Japanese dishes like sushi and other rolls to fill my tummy.
According to the chef manning the Japanese Station, their best seller would be these blow torched salmon covered rolls. I got to agree with him as it's pretty much one of my faves.
At the other end of the long buffet line, they had the dimsum area. Here you could also ask for noodles to be cooked for you along with what ever toppings your tummy desire.
Not just Chinese based noodles but also other pasta dishes that you have the cravings for.
Like this puttanesca. Straight forward. No frills.
Alongside it is their Indian station. This is where they serve their tandooris and other spice filled dishes.

It didn't stop there. THE MEAT SECTION STARTED WITH THIS AMAZING FILIPINO DISH. They had a ROASTED PIG or Lechon which I must say got wiped out pretty fast.  The skin was crunchy and glorious. Each bite would equate to a delicious sound. Don't worry though, they also offered other roasted dishes such as chicken, duck, and yes out of no where deep fried tempuras.
Then this huge table of meat greets you. You can see the sous chef getting those huge chunk of steak right there for grilling. You could ask the staff to cook those pork chops, different kinds of steak,  chicken and even sausages that would make you order beer just for Oktoberfest. Perfect beer match I tell you.
These aren't just ordinary steak, they are marinated to perfection. Cooked just right and are heavenly with each bite. Yes, I moved the veggies to the side and just had the steak.
Oops, that's not all. They also had a humongous PRIME RIB. This bloody piece of meat has a coat like no other. Herbs upon herbs were used to make it flavorful. Plainly speaking, it was damn perfect.
They also had a bunch of hot dishes for you to take the plunge with.
Mushroom and ox tongue to Pork Belly cooked in a tomato based sauce.
Beef with crispy noodles.
A lasagna like dish covered with incredible cheese and has a meaty surprise inside.
Another beef dish. Apparently, you can't have too much of meat as they kept on pouring the different dishes.

Truth be told, a meal isn't complete without dessert. It is the main reason of finishing a meal. To get to a sweet ending.
MAKATI SHANGRI-LA 's CIRCLES has an impressive dessert line up.
From different mini creations.
To homemade sorbets
and Filipino delicacies.
They even had a huge cupcake for the taking.
Seriously though, they had an awesome TIRAMISU
and this devilish EVIL CAKE. You must not miss this one. DEADLY yet uberly good.

I know that CIRCLES has been there since forever. With this new set up,  MAKATI SHANGRI-LA could be able to keep inviting foodies over and over again just because they have something different every dinner time for a whole week. I know for a fact that I would definitely enjoy the SEAFOOD MARKET and maybe another round of BUTCHER'S and to sum up everything, the GRAND CENTRAL MARKET.
