PROLOGUE: Opening Up To Good Food And Drinks In Quezon City

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. It's one saying that our parents keep on telling us. Eat eat eat every morning! At PROLOGUE, they now cater to your morning needs. They make our parents proud by offering goodies for our tummies. This time they offer breakfast!
PROLOGUE starts you off with some coffee. They even serve alcoholic version that I will definitely try next time. Some are infused with gin. Others with Vodka. Technically, it's coffee so it works for breakfast.
With an open kitchen, diners are treated to a feast for the senses. One could smell everything that would lead to a bout of salivation. Then, your eyes are treated to glorious looking dishes.
Since I visited during their grand opening, I tried out the breakfast offerings. One dish that really stood out (well everything I tried was pretty good). THE BREAKAST IN BREAD. It's their own sourdough packed with everything you want in for breakfast. It was intense and a complete meal to boot.
You can choose from vegetarian and an original version that you could add smoked salmon or iberico that they cured in house. In essence, you get spinach, onions, mushroom, tomato, sausage, iberico bacon, cheese, and egg. You can't have a bite at it in one go. Because of the sheer amount of food, it's best that you use a knife or your bare hands to eat. The egg porn that greets you though is just amazing as well.
Something familiar yet healthy would be the CHIA PUDDING. This bowl is filled with a lot of healthy goodies. It's simple but healthy.
They have a number of rice bowls that you could pick from. My top choice would be the RIB EYE TAPSILOG. Their take on the local favorite, they use premium cuts to make it all work.
IF you're into classics, you might want to go for the BRIOCHE FRENCH TOAST or the SOUFFLE PANCAKE. They have an in-house bakery that makes all the bread that they use. The French Toast is topped with Cream Cheese Ice. My other favorite would be the SOUFFLE PANCAKE. This fluffy concoction is made of legends. It's airy and stands on its own.
PROLOGUE is a restaurant that caters to all your day needs. From breakfast to night time, they have your wants. They have a new breakfast menu that you can compare with other restaurants but with better quality and price point. They offer breakfast from 7am to 10:30am. Prologue is the sister restaurant of EPILOGUE and BIJIN NABE.

EMPACHO: An Open Filipino Secret In Tomas Morato

Being surprised is one thing that I enjoy. It's like you're given special attention on a number of occasions. When you get that cake on your birthday or when you found out that you passed your difficult exam, it's all good. Lately though, I encountered a Filipino Food Joint, that wowed me. No Joke. Enter EMPACHO.
The word itself was a giveaway but EMPACHO delivered above and beyond. Located in Tomas Morato, Empacho gives of a relaxed vibe. The dishes they serve are Filipino fusion with a twist here and there. From my perspective, they elevated the different aspect of each dishes and made them better.
With a complete bar setup, EMPACHO offers a number of finely concocted signature drinks that are a welcome treat. They aren't your usual cocktails so to speak. Some infuse Filipino flavors with each sip. For me, I went with something familiar, an EMPACHO SIZED beer. Yes, I surprised myself as well as I finished it.
If you can't decide, you could try out some of their appetizers to start. The TRIPLE BYPASS is a combination of three deadly yet tempting dishes. They have crispy chicken skin, salt and pepper chicharon bulaklak or pig intestines and isol or chicken ass. If you're not that adventurous, you might be better off with the CRISPY TOKWA'T BABOY. It's basically deep fried pork belly with tofu swimming in a special sauce. This would already be perfect with plain rice!
Another dish that hits the spot would be their SISIG FRIES. These aren't your ordinary potatoes. They're actually longer than usual. With a sisig as the topping, it's pretty much a done deal.
To help you recover from all then oily and diet killer dishes, they have a few salad offerings as well. Although, I can't really say that they're healthier. The fact that one is covered with chicken inasal and the other is topped with roasted pork belly just goes to show that they really want you to get your money's worth.
Another shocker would be their version of the CHICKEN WINGS. Theirs has a sweet and tangy blend as tamarind is infused to make it so. There's a little bit of kick as well but this is a sure hit.
To recover, they created the PARES LOMI. A combination of classics, this gives guests a chance to relax and have something filling and classic.
But, the show didn't stop there. EMPACHO has a lot of dishes that would cover your cravings. They have a number of mains that would entice you to come back for more. They even have new dishes like laing na sugpo, sinampalukang tadyang, and even a carbonara pasta with laing.
After everything is said and done, you have to go with what your body tells you. The LECHON BELLY and the CRISPY PORK KARE-KARE are both hands down conquerors. The belly has a layer of crispy skin. Partnered with a vinegar based dipping sauce, you can't stop yourself from having more. The Kare-Kare needs no introduction. The sauce is very old school as it's a mix of nuts that would remind you of your childhood. It's just something that you got to have more of.
If you have room (which you should have), I can truly say that desserts are a must. Aside from the Salted Egg Lava Cake and the Kamias Cheesecake, their BIBINGKA CASAVA CAKE is a sure winner. The fusion between the bibingka and casava is a genius combination.
EMPACHO gave quite an experience. The dishes were all simple yet masterfully done. It's like elevating Filipino dishes to something straightforward but delicious.

They have a few activities at night. From bands to spoken word and even stand up comedy.

LIMBAGA 77 CAFE RESTAURANT in TOMAS MORATO: TVC EXPERIENCE

See someone familiar? Some of the top bloggers and influencers in the food blogging industry were asked to check out LIMBAGA 77 in Tomas Morato. More so, that they created a short TVC. It wasn't my first time being shot for television and yet I was nervous. Real nervous. I know I could have done more. I hope it was alright. Thank you very much for checking out this video. From what I gathered it would be launched sometime in February but let's see. Cheers!!!

LIMBAGA 77 CAFE RESTAURANT is situated along 77 Scout Limbaga near the corner of Tomas Morato in Quezon City. Having a couple of floors and expansive alfresco area, this is a restaurant that could definitely cater to different occasions.

Originally a house with over 50 years of memories, this was transformed into a FILIPINO CUISINE RESTAURANT. Guests would feel at home with familiar yet delicious cooking. Passed down through generations different takes on classic dishes like Crispy Pata and Laing.

For me, LIMBAGA 77 is a nice place to relax and enjoy good old fashion cooking. The rustic and relax feel is a welcome change from the urban city.

ORIENTAL PALACE in Tomas Morato: New Dishes to Try

With the CHINESE NEW YEAR coming up, different restaurants are putting their A GAME on. At ORIENTAL PALACE in TOMAS MORATO, they brought out their big guns. They invited multiawarded Chinese Chef Tsoi Chiu Fai from Hongkong to create delicious dishes for us to try.
Located along Tomas Morato, ORIENTAL PALACE is a classic example of "don't judge a book by its cover". From the front, it seems to be a small restaurant. Upon entering, one would realize that it is humongous. Around 600-700 persons could be accommodated in the first floor while another 150 plus in the second floor. This is definitely a banquet hall that would be perfect for any gathering.
ASSORTED FRESH SCALLOP with THAI SAUCE. Gigantic scallops were breaded and deep fried to produce a delectable dish. The Thai Sauce was a bit sweet but gave justice to the scallop. To accompany it, Sauteed PRAWNS with candied walnut was served. Huge and plump shrimps were actually light. No rancid taste here. Furthermore, the candied walnuts gave a different texture profile for the dish. If this isn't your peg, you might want to try out the sauteed squid with Singapore Sauce. A sweet calamares like dish.
The DOUBLE BOILED SPARERIBS with CLAM SHELL in CLEAR SOUP was smooth and refreshing. The meat was tender and worked well with the soup. Honestly, I thought that I won't enjoy this dish. Thankfully, I did.
Enhancing the flavors, drops of HENNESSY were added to the soup. Depending on your preference, the coffeeish flavor of the liquor mixed well with the soup. One could appreciate the essence with a few (or more) drops. This would be the time to always remember to bring some cognac for your soup because it really does work.
For a sweet and fresh take on seafood, the ORIENTAL GAROUPA FISH FILLET was spot on. It was clean and the cooking style used elevated the flavors of the fish.
Crab lovers would enjoy the TYPHOON SHELTER CRABS.
Huge claws and meaty parts were separated to create a dish like no other. To enjoy properly, one would be forced to use their hands to properly get all the enticing and delicate meat. No time for spoon and forks in this one.
Aside from seafood dishes, there are also beef and chicken platters to try out. One of them is the T-BONE BEEF with Black Pepper Sauce. This one has a Taiwanese flavor. It could be compared with the Beef Noodle taste one gets. Served with mushrooms, there is a play on character.
Braised chicken with 3 cup sauce in a pot could also be one of the mains you might want to try. The dish is savory and would work well with rice.
What is a meal without vegetables? In this one, sauteed CELERY BLACK FUNUGS with Chinese Herbs were placed infront of us. Needless to say, I didn't touch it just because I was too full and it's too colorful for me.
On the other hand the fried rice was tremendously good. It had diced chicken with Abalone. Very savory and luscious, this one could feel you up in case you aren't yet.
Congratulations to Oriental Palace for creating such delicious dishes with their guest chef.

BROOKLYN'S NEW YORK PIZZA in TOMAS MORATO

It wasn't something that I'd expect. As an avid pizza eater,  I have never came across the brand BROOKLYN'S NEW YORK PIZZA. Little did I know that this particular restaurant is a delicious destination.
Located along Tomas Morato, the branch was small but homey and relaxed. One could start off with some drinks to cool off. Go for their spritzer-fizzle type drinks. It wasn't too sweet and quite refreshing.

Aside from drinks, BROOKLYN'S NEW YORK PIZZA has a deadly BUFFALO WING. This right here is a perfect version and could be your main reason to visit. With just the right amount of spices, the wings were marinated thoroughly. Perfect.
If you're up for rice, order this sausage platter. The PATRIOT is not your average longsilog. It has 3 different types of Filipino SAUSAGES that are straightforward and would go well with the egg and rice.
Pasta lovers would enjoy BROOKLYN'S NEW YORK PIZZA'S Pesto dish. The noodles were not overcooked and it was just right to balance the meal.
With regards to PIZZA, they know their stuff. The crust is not too thick nor is it too thin. It gives off the right kind of bite.
One would suggest to try out their CHEESE PIZZA as it lets you experience neutral. It isn't over seasoned but it is actually light. Something incredible would be their LA FILIPIZA. This is their Filipino take on a pizza. Longanisa, red egg and tomatoes are placed on top. Surprisingly, this would work with vinegar.
Joining in on the craze, they too have POKEMONS in house. This is their version of POKEBALLS. A pizza that seems normal but it actually works. Pepperoni on top and white cheese at the bottom. The olives balances it out. Delicious!

CHILIS TOMAS MORATO: New BURGERS and RIBS

CHILI's in TOMAS MORATO is the favorite restaurant of my dad. We used to visit this restaurant almost weekly and then some. It was his favorite so much so that when he went to the States, he chose this over other burger places.
As such, I was pretty delighted to get an invite to visit CHILIS and to check out their newest burgers and Ribs. For a weekday night, I was surprised to see the place packed.

It is also an awesome place to start your drinking spree on. They have affordable drinks mixed with tequila and even bottomless ones. This PATRON CRANBERRY mix has a nice kick to it.
For "light eaters", their SKILLET BBQ SLIDERS (435Php) are pretty good.

I like the mix of the chicken, beef and pork carnitas. You get to pick from the pile and add bbq sauce and honey-chipotle sauce as well. The pickled red onions gives it a crunch.

CHILIS has 3 new burgers in their lineup.

The SOUTHERN SMOKEHOUSE and the SWEET and SMOKY BURGER looks identical but have different flavor profile. Both have bacon and crispy onion rings in the frey. The former has cheddar cheese and is more smokey because of the bbq sauce. The latter uses pepper jack cheese and a mango-infused bbq sauce. Something different and has a sweeter touch.
My top pick though would be the GUACAMOLE BURGER (465Php).
Accompanied by melted monterey jack cheese, the freshly made guacamole is perfect with the red and green bell peppers. It actually works well.
RIBS are the backbone of CHILIS. Aside from the burgers, these babies are wonderfully done. Moist tender and fall off the bones.
They actually have a couple of new flavors. The CHERRY COLA BABY BACK RIBS and the CHIPOTLE BLUEBERRY BABY BACK RIBS.

The CHERRY COLA is sweet and has a fizzle taste. Almost similar to the drink it self. The CHIPOTLE BLUEBERRY has a deep berry flavor. It isn't really overwhelming and it complements the meat in itself. I truly enjoy both of them.
CHILIS has a number of dessert dishes to try out.

The SKILLET CHOCOLATE COOKIE is topped with a huge ice cream scoop. The addition of hot fudge just made it more dangerous. Another reinvention is the FRIED CHEESECAKE. Cheesecake were deep fried to create a golden brown exterior crust. Yummy as well.
If you must have one, get the molten chocolate cake. The cake is moist and seriously choclatey.
CHILIS has been in the Metro for a long time. The addition of these dishes would give the diners a lot more variety to choose from. If you are visiting, I suggest that you get the Guacamole Burger. That's my top pick.
