MAKATI SHANGRI-LA: SUNDAY BBQ BRUNCH AT SAGE

If the usual hotel buffet bores you, I guess Makati Shangri-La's Sage Sunday BBQ Brunch would be an ideal place to try out something new. I found myself visiting this hotel on a Sunday with good friends and awesome company. The spread isn't as big as you might compare it to other buffet lineups but it does give you the best bang for buck since it focuses more on quality rather than quantity.
Drinks are an important part of any meal. Here, they offer you some choices that could cure your hangover or even perk you up. That day, they were serving some bloody marys and an apple flavored sparkling mix.
After settling down, it's best to walk around the room to check out the different dishes they have have in store for you. You could fill up your plate with an assortment of cheese and cold cuts. There's even a number of salad choices that could get you moving.
Even if it's a BBQ styled and themed brunch buffet, they also have a few seafood offerings. They have shrimps, and a couple of salmon based dishes.
Crab cakes and smoky, spicy Chicken wings were present too.
I had fun with the burger station though. Here, you could have them create your own personalized juicy burger. Partner it with cheese, bacon, caramelized onions, and other toppings and you just might have one happy tummy.
I was pleasantly surprised when I got my double patty burger. Topped with bacon, melted cheese, and some darn good onions, I was salivating when I took the first bite.
Aside from the California Chicken Wrap Station, there's also a Ceasar Salad station that makes your favorite salad on the go. You could add pork, chicken, and shrimps as toppings.
For me, partnering it with some cold cuts, fruits, and even a bit of steak from the grill station made it a better salad. Honestly, it's quite hard to eat veggies with just veggies but having it with some other friendlier flavors could trick my tongue into liking it.
Speaking of, the MEAT selection of the SUNDAY BBQ BRUNCH would be its crown and glory. A number of different cuts were present aside from usual grilled items that you may see.
Dessert was also an impressive sight. Aside from the different cakes and pastry that they serve, they also had churros and grilled bananas that you could customize. Also, their ice cream and fruits selection were spot on.
SAGE BESPOKE GRILL of MAKATI SHANGRI-LA offers this BBQ BRUNCH every Sunday from 11:30am to 3pm until March 31. It is priced at Php 2,000 Nett. An additional Php 800 nett would be availed of if you would wish for unlimited serving of house win, beer and soft drinks.

MAKATI SHANGRI-LA'S SHANG PALACE: DIMSUM FOR DINNER

A feast for the senses. Each time one goes through the doors of SHANG PALACE in Makati Shangri-La, you are greeted with amazing decor and even better food. The attention to detail and the ambiance. Just perfect.
Just a couple of weeks ago, SHANG PALACE introduced DIMSUM NIGHTS. Very often, dimsum is only served during breakfast or lunch. At MAKATI SHANGRI-LA, they considered what the guests want and they deliver.
Special dishes left and right would be present. One could go for the classics and enjoy each bite.
Pork dumplings and Shrimp dumplings would be the favorites. Topped with fish roe, the pork variant is packed with flavors. The Hakaw or Har Gow is filled with plump and juicy shrimps.
The MACHANG is a favorite as well. Hokkien style glutinous rice is filled with glorious meat. As you unwrap it, you get a fragrant perfume like smell. Delicious and worth while.
Surprisingly, the SPRING ROLLS from SHANG PALACE is extremely good as well. Filled with pork and shrimps, the layering is fantastic. Each bite would result in the right balance of crunch and flavor.
To end the meal, one could go for some LYCHEE ALMOND SOYA JELLY.  Not overly sweet, each spoonful would make you swoon with delight.
If that is not enough, one could also go for their egg tarts. Small bite sized desserts, this is a thing of beauty. Simple and straightforward.
SHANG PALACE introduced DIMSUM NIGHTS to cater to the wishes of its guests. They would run this promotion up until June 30.

SAGE BESPOKE GRILL at MAKATI SHANGRI-LA: Sustainable Food Week

Food is an important aspect of living. As with everything though, it is not limitless. Because of this, we need to be protective and always looking forward. This week, a lot of restaurants in Manila are celebrating the SUSTAINABLE FOOD WEEK. This teaches us to be more in tune with nature and protect it.

One such restaurant that is taking this seriously would be MAKATI SHANGRI-LA'S SAGE BESPOKE GRILL.

Located on the 2nd floor of the hotel, the SAGE BESPOKE GRILL took a page out of the MAD MEN TV SERIES. Leather seats, awesome ambiance and the perfect service.

Appetizers were served prior to the main sit down meal. This SISIG is made from the Matambaka fish or the Bigeye Scad. Interestingly enough, it didn't taste too fishy. It was just like chicken. Sustainability, I believe is having also to make do with what is available in the sea.
A TUNA crostini was served next. Nothing heavy and pretty light. I liked how with each bite, there is a crunch sound. Talk about fresh bread baked daily.
Kilawin or ceviche were also served. Fresh fish used and cooked with vinegar.
Just for this week, SAGE BESPOKE GRILL made an excellent lunch set menu that screams sustainability and freshness. At 980++ Php, it seemed really reasonable. You get to choose between a starter, main course and a dessert.
To start things, we were served with the PARROT FISH CEVICHE leche de tigre, Peruvian styled. The parrot fish was smooth in texture. The ceviche was somewhat different as the sauce has been spiked with the coconut flavor. Something creamy and interesting.
You could also try out the TOMATO and OREGANO Algario Gaspacho, Baby Squid a la plancha. The soup was served on the cold side and is a mix of different vegetable flavors. The baby squid were firm and cooked perfectly.
For the main course, the JOSPER GRILL WHITE SNAPPER, Manila Clams and tomatoes with chorizo. This was a pretty interesting dish as the fish was smothered with a foam of white wine. It has absorbed the flavor from the fish and makes the dish moist. The clams were cooked in a way that there's a bit of infused wine flavor too.
The CARAMELIZED PINEAPPLE CRUMBLE with star anis and vanilla sauce was the perfect ending. It wasn't too overpowering nor was it too sweet. It was just right. Served warm and just right I wouldn't mind having more of this.
Thank you Chefs for making our visit an amazing one and for creating dishes that make use of sustainable ingredients.
Chef Eric Weigmann, Chef De Cuisine for Sage Bespoke Grill. Chef Gilles Galli, Executive Sous Chef. Chef Paul Lenz, Area Executive Chef for Shangri-La Philippine Properties.
Sustainability is one of the most important aspect of food. Our sources must be respected and treated as if it is our friend and lifeline. You can't just disregard the future for present gains. Remember, we must think about our kids' kids and more generations to come. Thank you very much Makati Shangri-la for joining the Sustainable Food Week. Cheers.
