EASY TO DO CHEESY PIZZA AND TUNA WRAP RECIPE WITH GOLD SEAS TUNA CHUNKS

Cooking has never been my strong suit. I'll admit, I'm the first one on the dinner table but I'm the last when it comes to prepping the food or even gathering ingredients and getting the different things needed to cook delicious dishes.
Luckily I was invited to "cook" and learn from no less than the Master CHEF ROSEBUD BENITEZ. Using GOLD SEAS TUNA CHUNKS, I'm pretty impressed with the dishes we got out. I saw how versatile and easy to use GOLD SEAS TUNA CHUNKS are.
Responsible fishing and no extenders are the main draw of GOLD SEAS TUNA. These attributes makes this an interesting ingredient. This premium brand tuna are sourced from yellow fin tuna and are given the utmost care and respect so I'm pretty happy that I was able to use it to cook some dishes.
To start things off, we made A CHEESY TUNA PIZZA. Granted that it would be better to make your own dough, but since it's way easier a ready made flour tortilla would do wonders as well.
 You should prepare the following:
1 small can corn kernels
1 can Gold Seas Tuna Herb and Garlic
50 g canned black beans, drained
1 small red bell pepper, sliced thinly
1 small red onion, sliced thinly
2 tsp cilantro, chopped
1/2 tsp chili powder
1/2 tsp cumin powder
1 piece lime, juiced and zested
Salt and Pepper
1 large Pizza Dough or Flour Tortilla
170g Quickmelt Cheese
The steps are pretty easy to be honest. Chef Rosebud did a number and got us all squared away. You could pre-heat the oven to 425 degrees. Then, place most if not all of the ingredients in the bowl. Don't forget to add a bit of the oil from the can. Break up the tuna meat by using a fork. Mix them all together according to taste and preference. You could leave a bit of the bell pepper so that you could add them later on.
After spreading the mixture on top the dough, add the cheese. Add as much as you would want! You could then bake it for 5-7 minutes.
From here, you get the end product. A CHEESY TUNA PIZZA!
The next dish we did was sort of a surprise. I never knew that I could do something as delicious and healthy as a TUNA WRAP. This would be perfect for LENTEN SEASON as it's a guilt-free dish to serve.
You would need the following ingredients:
3 tbsp hoisin sauce
3 tbsp soy sauce
2 tbsp rice wine vinegar
1 tbsp sriracha
1 tsp sesame oil
1 tbsp olive oil
1 onion, diced
2 garlic cloves, minced
1 tbsp ginger, grated
2 cans Gold Seas Tuna Lemon and Pepper
1/2 cup Water chestnuts, drained and sliced
2 green onions, sliced
Salt and pepper to taste
Large leafy lettuce, leaves separated for serving
To start, you would need to make the sauce. Whisk the hoisin, soy sauce, rice wine viegar, sriracha, and sesame oil in a bowl. Add oil in a skillet and heat it up. Add a bit of the juices from the can as well. This would definitely help coat the next ingredients. You then add the onions. Saute them till translucent. Then add the garlic and ginger. Afterwards, you could add the tuna. Break everything up using the back of the spoon.  Here, you could add a bit of the sauce. Reduce the mixture and turn off the heat. You could add the water chestnuts and spring onions to give it texture.
Scoop everything up and place some on a large leafy lettuce. It's actually pretty good that I had more than a couple spoonful. Plus, it works perfectly with rice as well. The chestnuts gave it a bite and it cuts through the flavor. I liked it.

Gold Seas Tuna Chunks was introduced to the Manila market last year. It was welcomed with big hugs and happy stomachs. Made with Yellowfin Tuna and responsibly fished, these babies do not have any extenders. That's why it's chunky. Gold Seas Tuna is available in all leading supermarkets. There are different variants that would spell delicious if you get to try them out. Personally, I just prefer the one with olive oil. Simple and straightforward. Cheers!

FRANK & DEAN: Ocean's Telephone Co

FRANK and DEAN is a place that hides from the lime light. Located in the BURGOS CIRCLE AREA, you won't be able to notice them unless you are looking for them.

This hidden gem is far from all the ritz and glitz. Once you enter, sounds of the past blast you right where you stand. Old school music from the days of Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin. Current sounds were given old school twists as well.

Up the second floor is a different beast altogether.

The red door to a different place awaits you. THE OCEANS'S ETLEPHONE CO.

One quick peek and you will see a "normal looking" telephone booth from the olden days.

But, knowing that there is a secret door makes it worthwhile.

When you enter, this greets you. OCEAN'S TELEPHONE CO.

It's basically a speak easy bar. Or something that they tend to shy away from the general public. The place opens around 7pm and closes till the wee hours of the morning.

Of course, I went there for the food.

You can start of with their RACLETTE GRILLED CHEESE (335Php). Raclette, cheddar, mozzarella, brioche slices and a marinara dip. This baby right here is a great start.

The EGGS BEN on BRIOCHE (360Php) 2 poached eggs smothered with hollandaise sauce and bacon right in the middle.

They also have 12 inch pizzas available to share starting at 11am. One rule that they have is to eat them with your hands. No utensils. Just hands.

Classic choices here would be the Margherita (300Php) and the Pepperoni (399Php). The pizza are thin crusts and premium ingredients were used.

One dish that I enjoyed though was this. The SOUTHERN FRIED CHICKEN WITH WAFFLES (420Php).
The chicken pieces are deliciously made with their original breading. Gravy is homemade and served. The waffles on the other hand are perfectly cooked. Each bite is crispy and the addition of their syrup is amazing.

If a meal is not your thing, they also offer coffee and some decent sweet snacks.

You can be sure of their coffee as they source it from Yardstick. Most of the desserts are third party though but are worth it. The chocolate covered potato chips are a must. It reminded me of royce but then again, this is locally made and it still packs a punch. I liked the mix of sweet and salty as it is a perfect play on the flavors.

FRANK AND DEAN is the place to go if you want to hungout for coffee or cocktails. You get decent grub and the place isn't that crowded too much during weekdays. Their speak easy bar of OCEAN'S TELEPHONE CO is a cool hangout after a day's work.

WITB: Rainy Weather Pizza Hut

"Walang Pasok! Walang Pasok! Walang Pasok!"
I remember how I used to sing/shout this phrase over and over again every time it rains. For a kid or someone that goes every day to school, rain would be a welcome weather change to get a day without classes.

But as I grew up, I realized that extreme weather has consequences. Worst, a lot of our brothers and sisters were really affected and had to endure staying at evacuation centers and not being able to have access to basic needs. It is pretty sad to see these kind of things. Hopefully everyone is doing fine and was not severely affected by the weather this past few days.
...
Even if I am already an adult and has a job, I still want to have an extra off day. And yes, I still chant that phrase. LOL! I also saw that there are companies that are profit minded and great companies that take care of their employees. I am thankful that the corporation I work for takes care of us and gave us a looooot of privileges and leeway when it comes to emergencies.
(READ: free food, free lodging, transportation reimbursement, free food, double pay, and yes free food... Sa food palang sulit na ako :D :D :D)
Anyway, enough of the sentimental realizations and on with more food! Being the tamad guy that I am, I looked and called a lot of delivery service that would be able to cater to my family's tummy's need during the rainy days. Thankfully, Pizza Hut was able to serve our area even if it was raining cats and dogs.

Eating Nolita

May 14, 2013

A few weeks ago (fine months ago!!!), I was with a few friends doing a bit of early road tripping and movie watching. After a few hours of going around the metro, we ended up in BGC. Being big, medium and small adults with huge empty tummies, we were hungry. We wanted a chill place with huge servings for our snacking mode. Something different to fill our appetites but will not empty our pockets. When we arrived in the Fort, we looked around but couldn't decide. It was left to me to guide the flock into where we could have a snack.

from spot.ph
I needed to take things into account. You see, the boyfriend of Ms. C just got back from a far far away land. It was my first time to meet him personally and I am glad that Ms. C and Mr. T is a couple and is getting along really well. Anyway... since Mr. T, just came home from staying out of town for years, I wanted something different for him. He had a looooot of Filipino Food for the first few days he got here. So, I believe that he needed to get a little bit of old school snacking. He really needed to lay off from all the Filipino Food. (This is just me doing a little bit of transference). That is why, we ended up in Nolita.

Eating Red Garlic Bistro

May 11, 2013

About a year or 2 ago, my family and I chanced upon this small restaurant along Blue Ridge, Katipunan. It had sushis, pastas, pizzas and dessert. What more could I ask for? I became a regular, bringing my friends to dine here. Sadly though, it closed and recently moved to the Fort.

Fast forward to last night, my friend Ms. K asked me to go out with her to have some dinner. Being the good friend that I am, I (was forced and blackmailed) gladly went with her. The only problem now was that she wanted a lot of things. She was indecisive. She doesn't know what and where to eat. She only wanted to go to BGC to have some fun after. So, I obliged. While driving, I remembered that one of my usual go to recently just opened near Bonifacio High Street. There, her cravings would be satisfied.
