HEADING BACK TO WEE NAM KEE: Checking Out New and Old Dishes

One of the few places I know that serves Singaporean food would be WEE NAM KEE. This franchise from Singapore has been around for a few years in the metro. I haven't visited them in awhile and I wanted to see what new things they had to offer.
One lazy afternoon, I went on over to their Makati branch in Ayala triangle. If you're planning to watch the lights and sounds show at night, they also offer outside dining.
It was nice to see that they offer refreshing coolers. Drinks such as the Strawberry Passion Fruit, Fresh Barley, Milk tea, and even their in house iced tea provided a much needed break from the humid weather.
A visit to WEE NAM KEE will not be complete if you don't try their HIANANESE CHICKEN. You could actually pick between a combination of roasted and steamed. Both giving different texture and flavor profile, it is best to partner them with the sauces. You could go with the chili route, sweet soy sauce, and the ginger and garlic.
Something different would be their CURRY FISH FILLET. Not too spicy, this dish would make you want to eat a lot of rice. The curry went well with the fillet.
Speaking of rice, they offer a variety of such. You could go with their hiananese rice which was flavorful and fragrant. For fried rice lovers, they got this PINEAPPLE FRIED RICE WITH CHINESE CHORIZO. It's a sweet and tangy twist on fried rice. If that's not your bet, the SAMBAL FRIED RICE is a great alternative as well.
For other main choices, you could go with the ROAST PORK AND BARBECUE PORK  and GRILLED US FLAT IRON STEAK WITH SWEET SOY SAUCE.
The Roast Pork offered crunchy skin and moist meat. Kids would definitely enjoy it. The BBQ Pork had a sweet flavor to it. It makes you want to eat a lot of carbs. The US Flat Iron Steak is their take on something sizzling. The meat was tender and perfect for any meal.
WEE NAME KEE is the place to go for your HAINANESE CHICKEN RICE FIX. This Singaporean Restaurant has been in the metro for years. It's your comfort food at its finest.

WEE NAM KEE IS PRESENT AT DIFFERENT LOCATIONS in the Metro. I visited the one in Ayala Triangle. I wrote this article based on my opinions. I was invited to try out this dishes.

WEE NAM KEE's New Dishes

New dishes. These are what we always look for in our go to restaurants. We always ask, when will I be able to try something new? Something different. WEE NAM KEE is a place that definitely knows it all. Recently, they serve 4 new dishes to titillate our sense.

Pictured above is the BAK KUT TEH. I know it's a mouthful. This "meat bone tea" is a mix of Chinese, Malaysia and Singaporean influence. This healthy dish is has a "tea" background and may not be for everyone but for sure, WEE NAM KEE made it with a Filipino twist.

The next dish is the BEEF RENDANG. The national dish of Indonesia but adopted in Singapore. The beef is cooked in great sauce that has a coconut mix in it.

For something different, the CLAYPOT CHICKEN RICE  s a treat. The use of the Chinese chorizo mixed with the chicken makes it into a sweet dish. The addition of the mushrooms gives it a healthier feel.

If noodles are preferred, the SINGAPOREAN BEEF NOODLES could be a delight. The broth works well with the cold rainy weather.

For amazing Singaporean Dishes, one could go to WEE NAM KEE. Not only do they have the usual chicken rice but they also try to improve their offerings with these new dishes.

What's New in Wee Nam Kee?

When one ask me where I get good Singaporean Food in the metro, one restaurant comes to mind.
 Wee Nam Kee.
Originally Wee Nam Kee is a known Hawker Restaurant in Singapore. Good people with good taste brought on over the brand here for Singapore's Awesome Dishes. Thank you guys!!! One of the reasons why I go to Singapore yearly is to visit and get my game on with an authentic taste of their offerings. I could honestly say that Wee Nam Kee cuts that craving and fills my tummy. Their food is somewhat the same with the stuff I get in SG and yep no need to travel. Whew!

Nestled in the basement of the new wing of the Shangrila Mall, Wee Nam Kee stands out on a lazy weekday lunch. Diners were going in and out and it seemed that a lot loved the food that they are getting.
Along with blogger friends, I was able to try their new menu. The Culinary Treasures of Singapore.
Starting off with something to drink, the CUCUMBER LIME REFRESHER (135Php) is as the name goes, refreshing. Fizzles come out from the soda water used and the sweet taste goes well with the cucumber.
The CRISPY MATOU BREAD WITH CONDENSED MILK (78Php) was served and cooked perfectly. I would usually get this when I go to SG and even in other places. I loved how it was made. Crunchy outside and the soft inside. Other places would do this wrong but you know what, WEE NAM KEE made it worked!
The PRAWN PASTE CHICKEN WINGS (218Php) was their take on deep fried goodness!
It wasn't sweet far from it. I would have wanted it to be become more flavorful, but it was all right to have a mild taste of prawn paste present so that it wouldn't over power other dishes.
The next dish would be my favorite. The SALTED EGG CHINESE STYLE FRIED CHICKEN (295Php) was something that I would have overlooked. But one bite and I know that it must have my utmost attention. Just rice. Just give me rice and I would be happy to have this dish. The salted egg's flavor was spot on and gave the dish that drool worthy taste! I would definitely go back to WEE NAM KEE just for this.
If you are into coffee, you would love the CASHEW COFFEE SPARERIBS (298PHP). The coffee isn't that overpowering but you could clearly taste the distinct flavor.
If you know me, I usually stay away from veggies so, I didn't really go for the TAMARIND LEMONGRASS FISH FILLET STEW (325Php). I was able to try the soup though and I could say it goes well with rice. Just that .. I ran away from veggies.. and yes fish.
I liked the taste of the WOK FRIED CHICKEN WITH CASHEWS & SUN-DRIED CHILI (270Php)
It wasn't as hot as you would expect and the cashews gave a crunchy texture to the dish.

For sweet and sour lovers, the PRAWNS with LYCHEE and PEACHES is a winner. (495Php)
The lychee and peaches provided a refreshing take on this sweet and sour dish. I would have loved to have the prawns crunchier but it was all good!

SAUTEED BEEF FILLET IN SATE SAUCE (395Php). Sate sauce and beef. This dish can't go wrong.
Now let's go with some carbs shall we? Diet be damn.
The PINEAPPLE FRIED RICE with PORK FLOSS (250Php). This needs no description at all because the name of the dish says it all.
As with most of the dishes, the flavor are distinct yet not overpowering.

Going to the noodle side of things, the SPICY SAMBAL RICE NOODLES was up next.

Basically, it was hot sotanghon. That was the first thing that came into my mind.

The HAINANESE CHICKEN CURRY NOODLES was a little on the hot side but was just right.
Made with Laksa sauce, if you love it then you will enjoy this dish in this bed weather of ours. The noodles was properly cooked and you would definitely slurp it all!
Wee Nam Kee is definitely a place known for its Singaporean Food Offerings. You won't go wrong with them. They specialize mainly in Hainanese Chicken Rice but with their new menu, you get to try other Singaporean Dishes.
I definitely love the new menu and of course the old stuff are their main stay so you won't really go wrong with what you order. Budget around 500 Php per person.

Eating Wee Nam Kee (Alabang Town Center)

May 17, 2013

Yesterday, I was dragged away from my deep slumber because my friends were calling me and asking me to pick them up. Argh!!! You see, we have an overnight out of town chillaxing scheduled. We were going to stay in Tagaytay City but coming from Quezon City, one has to think about where to pass and of course my favorite subject, where to eat?!.

According to my planning, Ms. C, Ms. K and Mr. C and I were supposed to leave at 9:30am. We were going to eat lunch or brunch in Tagaytay. Expecting the tardiness of my friends, I checked in early. I was told that they were not yet ready even if it was already past 9 in the morning. Being the angelic boy that I am, I slept at around 4:30am and woke up at 8am so that I would be able to get ready and on time. Since I was so sleepy, I tried to do a long power nap to help me concentrate and drive. While enjoying my dreams, I was disturbed with a call. It was almost 11am when I got the wake up call.

I pushed myself to stand up and drive. I drove like there was no tomorrow. I picked them up and we passed by the C5-Slex-Alabang-Daang Hari-Aguinaldo route going to Tagaytay City. We chose this because it was not the usual way going there. Furthermore, I have proven to myself that this has been the best way to go since I had a past relationship staying in Dasmarinas (that is another story for another time). Sadly, we couldn't continue and we needed a quick stop to replenish our depleted energy (I mean FAT molecules!!!!) because of the traffic. It was already 1pm when we got out of the slex and into the Alabang Area.

Having empty stomachs pushed us to rush to Alabang Town Center. My friends have never been there and we wanted something different to eat. We went to the new wing, since I know that there are a lot of restaurants in the first floor. Being the indecisive group that we are, I chose to eat in Wee Nam Kee.
