Staying Discovery Country Suites Tagaytay

May 29, 2013

WHEW!!!! Enough with all the Bangkok posts...
After all that tiring VACATIONing... well I went straight to another one...
This one is shorter but what the heck....

It seems that I have an affinity to the south. To be more precise, I end up going to Tagaytay. I have been there countless times. During the period when I was still dating someone from down there, we would usually end up eating and staying the night in this neck of the woods. Add this up to the different after party occasions and midnight movies that would lead me here. All this from a guy that grew up and stayed all his life in Quezon City.

Isn't that just NUTS?

From the dashboard of my car... The ever famous Tagaytay's Rotonda

I guess I needed another time off as I pursued another stay in Tagaytay. Don't get me wrong I know I am nuts.., I just wanted to go on another relaxing ride down there without having to drive back north again on the same day and try different restaurants that seemed visiting.

You see earlier this week, I went to Tagaytay with some of my college friends. I left around 1am. It was TIRING to say the least. (and dangerous and freaky... driving alone at night... waaah!!!)

Good thing this time, I have made a reservation to Discovery Country Suites Tagaytay for some overnight relaxation last May 28.

Eating Fuji Japanese Restaurant

May 26, 2013

I love Japanese Food. It is diverse and incredible. If its fresh seafood wonderful flavors are popping in my mouth. If its fried, the meat is tender and yummy. If its noodles its warm and comforting.

I know I know I know. I love JAPANESE FOOD!

So when in Bangkok, I was looking for some. I know it wasn't the ideal place to get some but I was craving!!!!! CRAVING I tell you!!!!!!!!!

wasabi anyone?
Good thing during our food tripping in the food court, a Japanese restaurant caught my attention. There were a lot of customers so I thought why not try it.

Touring Bangkok and Ayutthaya

May 25, 2013

Here is a photo essay of the different places we have been to. For 2 straight days, we went on tours. The first day was within Bangkok, the second was up north in Ayutthaya. From Ayutthaya, we arrived back in Bangkok via cruise.

in one of those gazebo in the summer palace
The culture is overwhelming. According to the tour guide civilization in this part of the world started recording stuff around 14 century. Cool right? ....

Shopping tips and tricks in Petchaburi Road, Bangkok

May 24, 2013

Going to Bangkok with no idea of what to expect is a bit problematic. I mean one would need information before doing anything. As one of my favorite lines from an old cartoon I watched when I was 12 years old, information is ammunition.

If we don't know anything about where and what we are doing, we might as well go out on the street with a blind fold right?

I searched some information on the net and based on my experience in BKK, I hope I could help you guys out.

Since we stayed in Novotel Platinum which was along Petchaburi Road, I would be concentrating there in general.

This area has all the bargain and shops to get your shopaholics in love with BKK

Eating Platinum Mall Food Court

May 24, 2013

SHOPPING SHOPPING SHOPPING!!!!!!!NOT!

I am sorry, I did not do any shopping. No clothes no souvenirs only food. Yes I guess that is my calling! Food is something that gives me a reason to stand up and walk all the way to the kitchen and cook something up. This was the exact reason why I accompanied my mother to Platinum Shopping Mall.
I left her in a maze of stores while I trooped all the way to the 6th floor food court.

Hazzy feeling! Need food!

When Hunger strikes...  one goes all out for food!!!!!!!!!!!

Eating The Square's Breakfast Buffet

May 24, 2013

Since our room had complimentary morning breakfast as part of the package, we abused it to the best that we can.

I believe that it is important to eat and get a heavy stomach every time we would go out since we would always have a full day ahead. Breakfast is an important part of the day that helps us to get all the good things in our stomach and transform them to magical energy that makes us awesome tourists!

Yes A LOOOOOT OF PEOPLE INSIDE!!!

Quickie Novotel Platinum Room Service

May 24, 2013

We were on vacation mode. We had tours left and right. We would wake up really early and get back to the hotel late. My brother would say "ayoko na pagod na ako", from all of the walking and intense heat we had to endure.

So one time during our visit, we treated ourselves to what else.....

Eating OPUS revisited

May 24, 2013

When we arrived back from Bangkok, our ride wasn't there to greet us. Apparently, EDSA and C-5 were  huge parking lots.

I figured since my dad and our driver were already 2 hours on the road, we should just meet up somewhere in the middle so that we could eat and relax. Rather than just picking us up then traveling through the freaking traffic again.

Since they were stuck somewhere in the Fort, I suggest we just meet up in Resorts World since it is the most logical meeting place. The only problem now would be finding a place to eat. Since I was with my family and they rarely go out at night, we chose OPUS.

Staying Novotel Platinum

May 23, 2013

My family and I stayed at a new hotel right in the center of the shopping district. I know this place is great for the shoppers. But for my bro and I, we were looking for other things to do. We wanted rest.

Thankfully the hotel we stayed in had a great location and has catered to the needs of the guests that just want to relax and rest.

For 4 days and 3 nights, we stayed at NOVOTEL PLATINUM.

Flying PAL MNL-BKK-MNL

May 23, 2013

Earlier this week, my mom, brother and I went to Bangkok for a few days to see the sights and taste the food. My mother went on with a little of window shopping but my bro and I just went for the food and the culture and room service. Of course, we had to take a flight going there right? ....

from google
It's not really a long flight. It only takes around 3 and a half hours. The long wait I believe would be the one going and staying in the airport. Since you would need to be there for around 3 hours prior an international flight. With nothing to do and just steel chairs around well.. lets just say I took a few snaps with my iphone around.

Eating Green ATS Bulalohan Restaurant

May 18, 2013

As I said awhile back, I usually find myself in Tagaytay in the middle of the night. After those parties and dinners or really early morning movies (that finishes at 2 or 3 in the morning), I end up smack in this city. Although a bit far (almost a 2 hour drive from Quezon City), I make the effort to go here because, believe it or not, I want to be with friends and enjoy their company. All you need to do is ask and I will gladly drive for you!! Also, this place has a different vibe compared to the metro. It relaxes the soul and the heart with warm food, cool weather and an awesome view!!!!

Sunny cool day
What does one eat when in Tagaytay? Of course, BULALO! But what about those guys that get here in the middle of the night? Where are the places which offer 24 hour service?

One of this place is Green ATS Bulalohan Restaurant.
Tender and hits the spot everytime!!!

Quickie Mr. Moo's Fresh Milk and Kesong Puti

May 18, 2013

"MILK!!! I want milk! Where is the milk? Give it now!! " with the padabog effect...

This was one of my friends dialogue with some of the people manning the breakfast buffet spread in Hotel Kimberly. Of course, I described it a little bit far out... but what the heck...
I pictured her as a brat... (she admits that she is...) wanting her piece of candy.

And as they say.. a brat gets what a brat wants...

So after checking out of the hotel, we went out straight to a milk place!

yes that is her... the little brat! lol

Say hello to Moooooooooo!!!

Eating Breakfast at Cafe at the K

May 18, 2013

"Of course we need to eat early! Yes YES YESSS BREAKFAST buffet!!!! Can we eat at 930am? It closes at 10.. BITIN un! Sa labas na lang tayo kumain? ......NO !!! NED STARK DIED!!Argh!!!!!! Bahala na.. Kainis"

These were the frantic back and forth yelling conversation I had with my friends the night/morning of our vacation stay. You see we are a bunch of food buddies that we always love to eat when we go out and go out because we want to eat.

Since we were in a vacation mood, we had to make the most of our time and relax but still get our tummies much needed nutrients.

Quickie Titan Barber Shop

May 18. 2013

"akala ko ba nagshave ka na?" Then another one said "pagupit ka na ang panget tingnan !!! " plus someone blurted out "seriously?" or was it my imagination acting up?.....

Fear the beard!!!!!
Argh.. I hate it. I do not like going out and taking a haircut. I mean, I do not want to pay a few hundred bucks just to get myself looking smart, cute, casual, and super cute. Did I mention cute? .. Yes I know right?

Ever since I was a kid, I dreaded going to the barbershop. Going here means that I would loose all my hair. My mature look would be gone and I'll be clean looking. I didn't want that back when I was a kid. I wanted to be like an adult.

Fast forward to a year ago, I still do not enjoy going to the barbershop. That is until I got wind of a new one along Katipunan.

For the love of the game

Staying Hotel Kimberly

May 18, 2013

It is the season for enjoying and having fun. I mean it is summer right? Although it seems that it is going to be the rainy season soon, we must always live to the fullest and enjoy God's gifts.

One of those gifts is of course are friends. Thankfully, my friends and I got that much needed R and R and time together.

Last Thursday, my friends went all the way to Tagaytay to relax (and to watch Game of Thrones marathon). (sana sa bahay na lang para masnakapahinga ako! HAHA!) We stayed at Hotel Kimberly found inside inside (really inside) Tagaytay.

Eating Wee Nam Kee (Alabang Town Center)

May 17, 2013

Yesterday, I was dragged away from my deep slumber because my friends were calling me and asking me to pick them up. Argh!!! You see, we have an overnight out of town chillaxing scheduled. We were going to stay in Tagaytay City but coming from Quezon City, one has to think about where to pass and of course my favorite subject, where to eat?!.

According to my planning, Ms. C, Ms. K and Mr. C and I were supposed to leave at 9:30am. We were going to eat lunch or brunch in Tagaytay. Expecting the tardiness of my friends, I checked in early. I was told that they were not yet ready even if it was already past 9 in the morning. Being the angelic boy that I am, I slept at around 4:30am and woke up at 8am so that I would be able to get ready and on time. Since I was so sleepy, I tried to do a long power nap to help me concentrate and drive. While enjoying my dreams, I was disturbed with a call. It was almost 11am when I got the wake up call.

I pushed myself to stand up and drive. I drove like there was no tomorrow. I picked them up and we passed by the C5-Slex-Alabang-Daang Hari-Aguinaldo route going to Tagaytay City. We chose this because it was not the usual way going there. Furthermore, I have proven to myself that this has been the best way to go since I had a past relationship staying in Dasmarinas (that is another story for another time). Sadly, we couldn't continue and we needed a quick stop to replenish our depleted energy (I mean FAT molecules!!!!) because of the traffic. It was already 1pm when we got out of the slex and into the Alabang Area.

Having empty stomachs pushed us to rush to Alabang Town Center. My friends have never been there and we wanted something different to eat. We went to the new wing, since I know that there are a lot of restaurants in the first floor. Being the indecisive group that we are, I chose to eat in Wee Nam Kee.

Eating Mu Noodle Bar

May 16, 2013

Last week, I found myself in Greenhills to pick up my new pair of eye glasses. I was a bit bored with the food in Greenhills already as I have eaten in most of the restaurants there. I needed something new and something different. Checking out blogs and what not, I decided to pay Wilson St. a visit. I have never been to Wilson St. for food or any business. Heck, it was my first time to actually pass there.

I really didn't know what to expect of the place but according to my mom, this area houses a lot of restaurants. It has been a start up place for people getting into the food business.

Enter Mu Noodle Bar.

Quickie Family Mart and Mr. Pickiest Eater

May 15, 2013

I never ever ever want to go and drive in Makati City alone. I mean, I do go out and make long road trips out of simple supposedly quick dinners. Sometimes, I find myself driving to Tagaytay at 3 in the morning, even if we were just suppose to eat in Tomas Morato.

BUT, Makati City is another place in itself. There are one ways and two ways and other ways in it. It is just confusing for me on how to go somewhere in Makati. Plus, traffic enforcers are quite strict and have different set of rules from the MMDA. If you ask me to go with you to lets say: Subic, Tagaytay, Moa, Ortigas, Cavite and Batangas, I would gladly drive for you. I never said no to anyone unless it is Makati.

Good thing today, I was with my mother and had my ever trusty driver to take care of me. Going there was no easy task. We braved the horrible traffic of Katipunan, C-5 and of course Makati. After dropping my mother in in Makati Med for her check-up, I asked my driver to bring me to the Glorietta and Greenbelt area to better get acquainted with it. I like the fact that there were a lot of unusual and great food places in this area. As we were driving around, I saw this familiar convenience store near Shangrila Hotel and Gold's Gym.

 Hello Family Mart!!!

Eating Nolita

May 14, 2013

A few weeks ago (fine months ago!!!), I was with a few friends doing a bit of early road tripping and movie watching. After a few hours of going around the metro, we ended up in BGC. Being big, medium and small adults with huge empty tummies, we were hungry. We wanted a chill place with huge servings for our snacking mode. Something different to fill our appetites but will not empty our pockets. When we arrived in the Fort, we looked around but couldn't decide. It was left to me to guide the flock into where we could have a snack.

from spot.ph
I needed to take things into account. You see, the boyfriend of Ms. C just got back from a far far away land. It was my first time to meet him personally and I am glad that Ms. C and Mr. T is a couple and is getting along really well. Anyway... since Mr. T, just came home from staying out of town for years, I wanted something different for him. He had a looooot of Filipino Food for the first few days he got here. So, I believe that he needed to get a little bit of old school snacking. He really needed to lay off from all the Filipino Food. (This is just me doing a little bit of transference). That is why, we ended up in Nolita.

Eating Tri Mo Shawarma

May 13, 2013

Today is a day that would be filled with accusations and counter accusations not to mention controversies and electoral fraud and sabotage... NOT! Just kidding!!! With all the attention towards the midterm elections and media hype because of the PCOS machine, senatorial candidates and the quick count, I needed something to keep my mind away from all the drama.

Good thing my friend Ms. J invited me to look away from all the stress and to teach her how to drive and park her new baby. Let me tell you this though. Guiding someone to drive is STRESS made into, not an intermittent feeling but rather a constant while undergoing the whole teaching endeavor.
So, I asked her the most quintessential question. "Saan moko papakaenin?".

Her immediate add-on to her invitation was "insured ka naman diba?". WOW!!!
Yeah!!!! come to papa
ANYWAY!

Her answer to my question though was ..." TRI MO SHAWARMA....". I know the place. I have on many occasions passed by and bought some for takeout after late night parties. I have never gone there during merienda time though and, I was curious. Besides, we were suppose to visit it months ago so what the heck!

Thinking that traffic wouldn't be that bad and I will be getting a free meal, I nervously said yes. Enough of the driving though as that is another matter.. let's rather talk about the eating!

Eating Vikings

May 12, 2013

Where where to eat on mother's day? Yes yes yes I know but where? Buffet or fine dinning? Hotel or restaurant? Wait wait distance?

These were the frantic questions my dad, brother and myself were asking each other as to prepare for mother's day. I mean I do all the scouting and they do the paying. HEHEHE! My dad wanted a hotel. Too bad for him, my brother and I wanted something casual and near our place. After much deliberations on the pros and cons, VIKINGS won.

Food Choclery Artisan Chocolates

May 12, 2013

Friends and family of mine know that I adore chocolates. I mean who doesn't right? Give me a piece of chocolate and I will not return the box to you! They might be out of their minds if they think that chocolates are NOT sinful, rich, yummy, delicious and all of that but I just can't get enough of it. My mom on the other hand, SUPER DUPER DUPER LOVES 2 things: BAGS and CHOCOLATES. Since I can't afford to give her bags, I went on a hunt for chocolates. Good thing that deal grocer had a coupon for this. So I got her

Eating Red Garlic Bistro

May 11, 2013

About a year or 2 ago, my family and I chanced upon this small restaurant along Blue Ridge, Katipunan. It had sushis, pastas, pizzas and dessert. What more could I ask for? I became a regular, bringing my friends to dine here. Sadly though, it closed and recently moved to the Fort.

Fast forward to last night, my friend Ms. K asked me to go out with her to have some dinner. Being the good friend that I am, I (was forced and blackmailed) gladly went with her. The only problem now was that she wanted a lot of things. She was indecisive. She doesn't know what and where to eat. She only wanted to go to BGC to have some fun after. So, I obliged. While driving, I remembered that one of my usual go to recently just opened near Bonifacio High Street. There, her cravings would be satisfied.

Sleeping The Inn at the Cliff House Tagaytay

May 10, 2013

Friends of mine would usually ask where should they stay in Tagaytay City. I would often reply with the same old question of "What is your budget?".

When one do not think of the price and has money to spend splurge, I would suggest staying at The Inn at the Cliff House. This place projects luxury and hospitality at its finest. I believe that this is the most private and intimate not to mention expensive place to stay at in Tagaytay.

Eating and Drinking Borough

May 10, 2013

There are times in the middle of the night when one craves for some comfort food and a few drinks on the side or maybe a nightcap. There are only a few restaurants and bars that are open 24/7 in the metro. Luckily, Borough is one of them. They serve good and home comfort food all day long.

My vodka and her margarita

Starting things off my friend and I ordered strawberry margarita and a vodka tonic. They had the right amount of kick.

Eating Early Bird Breakfast Club

May 11, 2013

As I wrote on an earlier post, I wasn't the guy that would wake up early but sure as hell, I love breakfast food. It was awesome that a restaurant that serves an all day breakfast menu is somewhat nearer compared to Tagaytay's Breakfast at Antonio's. Such is the case with the Early Bird Breakfast Club.

Located in the Fort Strip, near Zong and URBN bar, this small unassuming place gives the happy breakfast vibe all day and night long. They serve excellent breakfast food. Because of this, I have been here on a number of occasions.

I got the Vitamin C Smoothie. It is a citrus concoction that is made fresh. It is enjoyable and refreshing.

Eating Umami Hambaagu House

May 9, 2013

Eating hamburgers is an excellent way to get our arteries clogged up. But what the heck, who cares. It has been a meal into itself and can be eaten in a go. Patties with the bun and all. From gourmet to fast food chains, one can see it as a part of the menu.

It was quite different for me to try something else aside from the typical hamburger we order in the everyday restaurants. In this once secret restaurant, the burgers are the main attraction. They serve it with different toppings, salad (refillable), edamame, fries and  rice. NO BUNs! Just RICE!

So last sibling's day (April 10, 2013 - yes that long of a backlog), I brought my brother with me to this restaurant.

Mango Roselle and Green Apple Soda
My brother and I ordered drinks. I had the green apple soda which was apple plus soda water I guess. It was refreshing and is delicious. When I went to the washroom to wash my hands, I returned to an empty glass. Thanks a lot bro. You sneeky rascal!!!!

In Tagaytay, looking for a breakfast place is no longer a problem. Situated along the ridge, Breakfast at Antonio's serve exquisite breakfast food!

Eating Cafe Verbena

I went to Cafe Verbena (click for my first review of Cafe Verbena) of Discovery Country Suites for lunch. Good thing it was a Wednesday. For Wednesdays, they have 50% off!!!!
